Back in the 1960's Rovers made a formal complaint to RL about a referee known as "Sargeant Major Eric Clay ". Dont think this has ever been forgotten by those in charge .
Don't think he had to lock himself in the closet to escape though. And he was in Willerby square, erm, in full view of the police station across the road.
Many thanks Maurice, oh sorry that was Linsey's first name. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
French is out for 8 weeks Charon... the league leaders shield is one thing a great thing .... but I really hope they can cop for the lot...
Will never understand a play off competition having more gravitas than actually finishing top of the league after however many games. Or no relegation apart from a select few I suppose
Infamous Challenge cup game v. St Helens. I think...He played loads and loads of extra time, until Saints got the winning try, then blew up. Some said the ball from a Alex Murphy kick through, hit the back wall and bounced back onto the pitch for the Saints player to dive on it for a try!! Not sure how true that is.
This was a nice surprise, it was 0-8 to Wigan the last score I saw. Come on Rovers, beat the Wessy ****e on Sunday and get that six point cushion.
No, true, I know Union do it a lot as well, and the yank sports. Still a bit odd though, eight months of hard work for nothing potentially.
Yeah, like finishing third in the Championship and not getting promoted. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
If it was first past the post, the season would be over for all but two teams and it’s only half way through, it would be boring and people would lose interest. In football you have European qualification, relegation, play-offs…etc that keep most fans engaged to the end. Another reason is that loop fixtures mean teams do not play the same number of games against each other, Hull will play Wigan three times this season, whereas Saints will play Salford three times, basically a guaranteed three wins for Saints, not really fair if we’re basing everything on points come the end of the season. Ultimately it’s harder to win the Grand Final, seven different teams have won the league leaders in recent years, only three teams have won the grand final in that time. Only the winner remembers who won the league leaders, everyone else remembers who won the grand final.
Yeah, saw some of the French one last week. 80,000 there for the play off. Cracking game, 33-33 at full time before Toulouse won with a golden points score.
