If Bard comes in and Cirkin signs a new deal then yeah I do. That would be Bard, Diarra, Reinildo, Sadiki all coming from teams that play 3 at the back. Plus RLB played it a lot at Lorient. Just a hunch, could be talking bollocks as usual

For me signing left backs who can also play LWB or LCB just shows that we want solid defenders who are capable of being attacking threats and less to do with a system change.

I think both sides of the debate are right. We’re signing players who can play both shapes as they’re needed and not be square pegs in round holes

 

The thing is that that could well be the reason to bring in an upgrade. To push him on and develop, when if we're honest he's at least flat lined over the last couple of years.

For the last three years Patterson had been unchallenged as number one. When we were in League One with the German goalie, Hoffman, he had someone who was at the time better than him, but about the same age. Yes, he had a lone spell out, but he had to push himself to get the jersey back and keep it (and I know Hoffman had some kind of "mental" issue after getting COVID and his confidence dropped like a brick). Since then neither Bass or Bishop, although similar ages to him, were good enough to push him on and contest the jersey for him, and Moore was always signed as an experienced back up, a clear number two. Giving him a clear challenge might force him to up his game to fight to keep the shirt. If that's the case, great, we can deal with the headache of having two top keepers if that time comes.
