We dont make lots of mistakes now, but are you trying to say you were not interested in those players, we will see how it works out
I’m not sure you're looking at this the right way to be honest. Just because you’re personally not up on players doesn’t mean they're gambles. And, if you’re expecting ‘better’ players you’ll have to pay better money … … surely you’re not daft enough to believe players will go to Leeds, cut price, for the name alone.
“You” as in the club or me personally? By all accounts we (the club) were in for Habib but not Sadiki, its agents earning their coin. Me personally, neither excite me, I certainly wouldn’t want two players missing from December to January in the Africa Nations cup, it’s a possible 7 league games over the busiest period and hoping they don’t get injured If you’re happy and know more about them than me, that’s fine, I’m just speaking on a personal level.
I’m possibly not looking at it the right way and certainly expect players to see joining any of the promoted teams as a relegation battle. I’m hoping we have signed three squad players for £25m and that we can spend those bigger fees on better players We’ve seen reports that 6 different keepers are set to join, I’d be happy with any of the six but the first one to join another team the click bait sites will scream Leeds miss out again Am I concerned we haven’t announced a marquee signing, yes of course, we were promoted at least 4 weeks before you guys so we should have known asking fees and interest well before many others and it feels that times been wasted Going back to Sadiki - They valued him at £17.5m we valued and offered around £8.75m Brentford came in at £11.5m we walked away, Sunderland came in at nearly full asking
All about opinions, I think these 2 lads are outstanding players with so much growth but I do think they probably suit us more than they would you. I'm pleased we are signing players irrelevant if they are going to the AFCON or not - it shows to me that we believe these players are not only for the now but also for the future. The success we've had with our owners is always thinking of the bigger picture both short and long term, these signings do that for me Time will tell if they are worth it
FWIW I don’t think we should get cocky because come next week you could have got two of our targets or signed better players. Or not of course. The judge will be the performances and results
Fans of clubs above us, clubs in that Elite level ‘Sunderland doing great business and gonna surprise people’ Fans of teams who think they are gonna be competing with us ‘Sunderland are overpaying for average players.’ It’s hilarious. I wouldn’t have wanted a single player that’s gone to a supposed relegation rival to date. That’s the truth.
I've just read your post again and, I have to say, you've really had me chuckling. There's such a mish-mash of contradictions in what you're saying tbh. Firstly you're speaking on behalf of the club, as if you're some kind of spokesman, and claiming Leeds have enquired about 60 players. You don't know that in any way. Then you're suggesting, again with no proof, that Leeds didn't want the players Sunderland have signed ... again you have no proof either way. You've also no idea what Leeds would've been prepared to have paid and, what you'd have 'been happy to splash' is totally irrelevant as you have no say. And, to suggest they may be expensive mistakes, and gambles, is nonsense ... ... you can say that about any player and any Leeds may sign, you've had plenty who've flopped before.
Aye he’d be a class signing. Facts We are definitely stronger Burnley are definitely weaker (Egan-Riley and Trafford) Leeds look pretty stagnant so far (I’m sure they will make moves for at least one player we don’t want ) We are sound.
In your response above the @Wayne the Punk you said that the club were not in for Sadiki yet you are now saying you offered around £8.75m - so you were in for him but the price was too high?
To me it looks like Leeds are pulling the Mags classic of massively lowballing offers which will obviously be turned down. Never mind though, it shows their fans they are 'trying' for players but being outbid by 'over inflated' offers
I’m just glad we’re doing our business early. This allows us to either get the players we want, or have plenty of time to get a replacement lined up if we get knocked back. The longer it goes on, the more pressure will be on to pay over the odds for what’s left and I’d rather be paying a little over the odds for players we actually want. As long as those players help keep us up, then they’re worth every penny and we’ll have something to build on for the following season.
Firstly I said we’ve made enquiries on “at least” 60 players, some will be agents approaching Leeds and Leeds asking how much and what wage. An enquiry doesn’t mean it’s always followed up I said Leeds were in for Habib, some say we didn’t match the asking price, others say we did at the last hour. I then said we offered £8.75 for Habib, when they asked for £17.5 and Brentford came in with an £11.5m offer we walked away
It possibly shows we’re being shrewd and possibly waiting for other teams to make players available I’m not hear for a pi$$ing match so I’ll leave you to it, happy you’re pleased with Sadiki and Habib and genuinely happy we didn’t sign them, as has already been pointed out, time will tell Enjoy your evening lads
