Apparently there is a legal challenge on Friday but otherwise could become law by midnight on the 9th July... https://news.sky.com/story/mps-appr...ine-action-as-terrorist-organisation-13391291 While a large majority (385) MPs voted to proscribe the group, 26 voted against the move. The amendment to the Terrorism Act 2000 to include Palestine Action and two other groups, Maniacs Murder Cult and Russia Imperial Movement, will go to the House of Lords on Thursday and become law at midnight on 9 July if it passes through successfully. It means it will become a criminal offence - punishable by up to 14 years in prison - to be a member of the three groups or to support them, if any legal challenges by the groups prove to be unsuccessful.
I'd have voted no as from .the admittedly little. what i've seen they are just a protest group and that doesn't make them terrorists just as the Greenham women weren't .
Find it really insulting to victims of terrorism that Palestinian Action (who have only ever caused property damage by painting ****) are to be labelled a terrorist organisation. I ain't a member or supporter but it is a serious attack on the right to protest. If these people were in charge anyone supporting the Suffragettes, Anti Apartheid groups etc would have been prosecuted as terrorists. During the anti poll tax protests thousands took part in spray painting council offices, bill boards, public footpaths and burnt council tax notices and court summons in public. I remember councils complaining that it was costing them each tens of thousands to clean it up. These people (following the logic being used in the case of PA) could have been called terrorists because of the amount it cost to clean up the spray paint damage. What ever a person's view of the war this is a completely inappropriate reaction to planes being painted imho
Well said I get that breaking into military bases is going to get you on the wrong side of the law, but that’s criminal trespass. And spraying military equipment is criminal damage Neither are acts of Terrorism It’s the same over exaggerated reaction to the acts at Glastonbury calling out the IDF. Everybody is going mental because they’ve called out what people in Govt have failed to do. Namely that the IDF have gone way beyond their remit to ‘defend Israel’ and have pursued a campaign of actively targeting civilians, in their homes, in hospitals, in refugee camps and now whilst queuing for aid. They have also targeted medical workers, journalists with a shoot at will policy with complete impunity and zero accountability. It is a military outfit that is actively carrying out war crimes. So it’s been left to protesters and singers to highlight these injustices because politicians of western counties will not address it. It’s also got **** all to do with Anti-Semitism. Yes that exists, but this is a completely separate issue to people calling out the Israeli govt and the IDF
Me looking at the tears in this thread over a bunch of plastic terrorists please log in to view this image
I think the punishment is more punitive because the government is desperate to cover their humiliation at having a supposedly high security base broken into by a couple of kids with nail scissors.
Yep this. Mentioned it before, but they’ve made an example of them because they exposed the lax security at an RAF base
