Oh FFS I abandoned that thread and pitched my tent here precisely because the "debate" over there was so ****e. I hope we only import our forum's best and brightest and leave the cretins in their little echo-chamber.
There’s more kickback here so 2 in particular won’t make their way over here as they don’t like debate
1) Yes, there are plenty. 2) Why is this an issue? Love them or hate them (I personally hate them), lobby groups are legal and a part of the democratic process. People are free to use their disposable income as they see fit and if that means furthering political causes they feel passionate about, there is zilch we can do about it. If every Muslim in America gave just $30 to AJP Action, they'd have a larger annual budget than AIPAC. Is it the Zionists' fault that doesn't happen? 3) You overlook the inextricable (and unique) connection between Judaism and Zionism. The only reason Zionism ended up fixating on that small parcel of land, rejecting other ideas such as Uganda, Madagascar and even Texas, was because of Judaism. So the unavoidable and perhaps unsolvable problem at work is that it is extremely difficult to disentangle anti-Zionism from anti-Semitism. I personally think there are loads of anti-Zionist people who aren't remotely anti-Semitic, but often that won't make any difference because of how their critiques are perceived by Jewish people, due to the unique connection I've described. Jews spent two thousand years in their Synagogues praying to return to the land of Israel (not necessarily by means of conquest, I should add), before 'Zionism' was even a speck on the horizon. I can't think of any other faith group that similar conditions could be applied to.
Yes, I think we're probably thinking of the same two posters They wouldn't last five minutes in here.
You are mistaking "sh*te debate" for being told by people who are clearly "better" than you, and know everything about everything (which you clearly do not) .
Punk band Bob Vylan have said they are being “targeted for speaking up” after their comments during a Glastonbury show were branded antisemitic and are being probed by police. During the group's performance on Saturday, rapper Bobby Vylan chanted “death, death to the IDF (Israel Defence Forces)” A statement posted on the group's Instagram on Tuesday said: "Today, a good many people would have you believe a punk band is the number one threat to world peace. "Last week it was a Palestine pressure group, the week before that it was another band. "We are not for the death of jews, arabs or any other race or group of people. "We are for the dismantling of a violent military machine. A machine whose own soldiers were told to use "unnecessary lethal force" against innocent civilians waiting for aid. "A machine that has destroyed much of Gaza. The statement added: "We, like those in the spotlight before us, are not the story. "We are a distraction from the story. And whatever sanctions we receive will be a distraction. "The government doesn't want us to ask why they remain silent in the face of this atrocity? To ask why they aren't doing more to stop the killing? To feed the starving? "The more time they talk about Bob Vylan, the less time they spend answering for their criminal inaction. "We are being targeted for speaking up. We are not the first. We will not be the last. And if you care for the sanctity of human life and freedom of speech, we urge you to speak up too. "Free Palestine."
