Confused from Cheshunt writes: The European Athletics Championships are coming to the UK in 2026! The biggest athletic event since the Olympics (with apologies to the Commonwealth Games) comes to these shores from 10 to 16 August. This will obviously be held at the biggest athletics stadium in the country, the London Stadium which will.... oh hang on a minute. No, it's at the Alexander Stadium, Birmingham. Capacity 18,000 which apparently can go to over 30,000 with extra temporary seating. Might we ask why? Isn't this the best potential revenue earning opportunity for British Athletics for ..... a long time? Or did one of those redacted clauses (let's face it, most of the contract with West Ham was redacted) say that it's use for athletics is superseded if it's needed for football? Is this because they'd rather have the 3p rent they're getting from Wet Spam than a week of a full capacity 60,000 crowds? Does it depend on when the season starts? Be interested to hear the official explanation, and not suspect dodgy dealing.
