Football in general is riddled with it, mate, 'sky bet championship, league one, league two', bet365 adverts before every match, list goes on
For me its difficult because its a case of "everyones doing it'. But of course that doesn't make it right. For me gambling and betting is far too prevalent in advertising across football and society as it is. I'd rather it was banned entirely. No sponsorship. No TV ads. If people want to gamble they can find the websites themselves like they do with porn!!!
In all seriousness, we know why porn sites are not allowed to advertise. We don't want impressionable kids finding porn too early. Yet we are willing to tell those kids its super fun to gamble. Weird.
You know what, I was gonna buy the kit but now I've thought about it I've decided not to. I'm happy the club can take the cash but I don't want to support it directly. I'll buy a training top instead for when I come to games.
I didn't know we did that and if we do I will doubly buy it as it will be making a statement. A small statement but will make me feel better
Being someone who has never been affected by a gambling addiction either personally or any of my friends or family it doesnt bother me, but can see why people are Would a different sponsor dramatical impact impressions, there is a bookies in the south stand, the advertising boards round the stadium, the opposition teams strip If a kid is that impressionable that is the worry - Until there is a big change in the whole game I dont see any club in the top two leagues getting a significantly weaker commercial deal for a moral win when whatever that company is will have its own moral challenges
you’re right, it’s far too prevalent for us to not have a betting sponsor for one year to make any difference, so I can see why we’d take the cash. but it doesn’t mean individual fans can’t take their own individual stands against it. I guess my best example is the environment. I know that having solar panels and battery storage and an electric car is going to make absolutely no difference to climate change whilst the rest of the world pumps out carbon at will. Yet I’ve still got those things as it makes me feel like I’m not contributing and I’m doing my bit. It’s a little bit ego driven but I feel in a positive way. I don’t want to feel like I’m contributing to something I don’t like.
I was just saying how football is riddled with it, I personally don't care too much about it like others but I do get why some might be annoyed
There was a report at the time that our invest in Africa deal was worth £20m per season, so this would be a significant deal for the club.
