I think that most of us saw where The Gaffer was coming from in using Grant Holt in a sub role.At the start of the season he seemed to lack the mobility required to consistently trouble defences at the highest level and I remember having a discussion with a friend early on when I said that I thought he was capable of 15 goals in a full Premiership season and he replied that he thought 10 maximum.

We clearly underrated him. When you look at his present company in the top scorer's charts, equal to Defoe and Hernandez, one behind Balotelli,Adeybayor and Sturridge he appears to have done quite well. But it's rather better than that, all those have been consistent starters for their respective clubs whereas Holt has averaged barely an hour a game over the fifteen matches.

My rating of the bloke, both as a player and as a person has increased tremendously.

He was awesome yesterday, not just for the goals. Thought he was more mobile than earlier in the season. I know he wasn't challenged effectively for the goals, but he still needed to put them away

In terms of the scoring charts, if holt and morrison can both get into the teens by the end if the season that will do very nicely for me!

Please can we not change a winning team for everton (apart from pilks for surman maybe)

Otbc and we love grant holt p

I agree with your post. i was unsure weather he would cut it tbh. but he does look a better player looks like he has done a lot of fitness work, looks a hell of a lot sharper than last year. Lets be honest here, he is not the best centre forward in the world but he makes up for that in passion and hunger. what he does he does brilliantly. I think he must have been one of our bargins of the century!! 50 league goals in less than 100 games says it all. I see no reason why he cant get 15 goals as long as the rest of the team keep playng like they are and giving him the right service.

Absolutely! I know I'm not alone in still regarding Gunny as a true Canary legend, and in being disappointed that he risked tarnishing that image with his spell in management, but if he had not become our manager, there is every chance we would not have signed Grant Holt! For that reason alone, I forgive Gunny for everything he ever did wrong!

I knew he would come good. He has started both previous season a little slowly and then been immense in the second half of the season. I see no reason to doubt he can do it again.

Remember this time last year? We were having the same discussions about whether he could cut it in the champ....

Holty IS Mr Norwich City. He's our talisman, an inspiration and as I've stated before, in my opinion the greatest Norwich Striker of modern times (no stats from the 1920's cheers)

He is and continues to be the Legend this club needed for a long time.

He's now got 59 competitive goals for the club, and I see no reason why he can't go all the way to 100. I always knew he would come good this season and he has.

Simply put, when he's in form, we're in form, so long may his goals continue!

On Sky Sports yesterday the first time they went to Phil Thompson covering the Norwich game he complained about Holt’s cheating and the idiot ref falling (pardon the pun) for it.

Then there’s your “manager” - in the wake of the Rooney appeal business we heard Redknap, Daglish and others pondering why violent behaviour was treated differently in this instance and what the precedent this sets might entail. Then we hear from Lambert: “Aaaggh right they should have appealed. With Norwich I’d appeal for EVERYTHING!”.

That just about sums up him, Holt and your club.

Been chomping on grapes of the sour variety again, Jenna?
Phil Tompson is a clueless muppet and one of the reasons I won't watch Jeff Stelling's programme. Holt scored two thumping, towering headers to help us beat one of the Prems 'in-form' sides, so all is well this side of the river Waveney - but thanks for asking <ok>

If you read it correctly Jemma, Moaner, sorry, ****er, you will notice Lambert was referring to the matter of risking doubling the sentence if you appeal. He was saying that in light of the FA's reasoning behind the Rooney appeal, for an incident where Rooney wasn't fouled but decided to kick his opponent up the arse, violent conduct in other words, then he would appeal from now on for matters more trivial.

Your club failed to a pay a charity, nothing but a group of cheapskates that's not even counting the time Norwich Union bailed you lot out of administration too. You always will be sub human scum in my eyes.

Hoolahan has been marvelous for City, but has had nothing like the talismanic influence of Grant Holt <ok>

He's the kind of player every team wants, but if he's not on your side you hate him. Proving it in premiership as well, good to see that heart and determination will get you far maybe players like Carroll and Zamora should learn from this a bit!

I imagine Holt and Morison would hold their own against the Klitschkos

............looks much fitter now than at any time sine he joined us. also i am not one of those who think he is slow, has a fair speed on him without being outright fast, as opposition defenders are finding out.

history shows us that holt takes a while to get his sharpness. he took about 12 games to get going in the championship and its taken 10 or so to get going in the premier league too. he was probably the outstanding player on the pitch on saturday along with demba ba (top striker that lad by the way) and along with morison has adjusted well to this league now. in fact morison gets better and better with every passing minute! not one single centre half has been able to cope with him this season, thats how well he's done. a lot was naturally made of newcastle's defensive injuries but of course nobody has mentioned that we've had our own first choice centre halves out all season!! we've had a right back play centre back nearly all season and not once have i seen lambert or even us fans moan about our injury plight. maybe thats more a credit to russell martin than anything else!! as for jonah, i simply have to laugh at the fool. holt gave a fabulous, professional performance and looks every inch the premier league hitman i hoped he'd be. if phil thompson did mention anything to do with holt cheating (which i very much doubt seeing as there was nothing in the game on saturday to produce this argument) then i think he may need to look at lambasting his own favourite luis suarez before looking at holt. now that boy really does cheat.

Completely agree supers. I wouldn't say we had a defensive crisis. We only had one in numbers. It has completely gone over my head. Lambert and the players have not mentioned it once. Pardew moans the moment he has three centre-backs out. Which is the same number as we had out. We have players willing to work hard for the team. R Martin will play whether he's playing at right back or centre back. I think if we were to play him up front then he would do a brilliant job.

As for Holt, he was brilliant against Newcastle. I remeber at one point, he ran to get a ball that wasn't his and quite far away. That effort from him put the Newcastle defender on the ball under a lot of pressure. It's only something small but it was a brilliant effort by Holt.
