I think he can be quality when given a license to attack and roam. Never understood Klopp playing in that right sided B2B role. Trouble is, he's not getting in ahead of Salah, Zobo or Wirtz and he doesn't seem (because no one's given him a chance?) to be able to play on the left. I don't think he really has the pace for the wing.
His best position is that 10 role but he’s totally different player than Sozob as he has that ability to see a pass and thread the ball through but doesn’t have the running power szobo does. I can see why he wouldn’t suit as a natural deputy there like for like. But then we go buy Wirtz who by most accounts is a very similar type player to Elliott albeit obviously far more established and higher quality so it seems slot does want that kind of playmaker in the 10. Now maybe that’s because TAA has gone so need more creativity up there, in which case I hope Elliott stays and plays as cover for Wirtz and szobo maybe drops and rotates with Mac.
Let's just face reality. Elliott has played a lot and the common theme has been never grabbing the game by the scruff of the neck and making a statement. If you want to be 10 you have to,go do that. You cannot be satisfied tapping about recycling the ball and being safe.
In fairness this is exactly what he does, but from the bench… It’s when he starts games he seems anonymous. He is an asset that we’d miss imo, but if he doesn’t want that role so be it
He seems to have fallen into the Kelleher category. Too good to be someones backup, but not good enough as a first choice player. Frankly a club like Newcastle or Villa would be perfect for him (maybe should include him in a deal for Isak ) ambitious teams that go for CL places but aren't expected to challenge for the league. Personally I hope we'll sell abroad, if we do.
I don't think so as jones gets games but he just does not ad that tells me he is too passive for slot
Joyce revealed a while ago that Slot's vision for building his team is "pace, fight and flair". Are any players who don't fit this model safe?
can't say that under Slot i've seen Szob do that but has been pretty much a guaranteed starter at 10 . Personally think Elliott hasn't got the physical attributes that Slot likes .
Maybe so. Szoboszlai is there to press up and make a genuine impact in thst press. Technically he doesn't get turned well enough for me and imo slot has got wirtz to make that 10 position "zing" Szoboszlai will do the dressing but he needs to be facing goes as an 8 rather than dribblinginand turning in tight areas. Elliott doesn't press, he runs near an opponent then gives them space to pass it. He doesn't get in and tackle enough. He can intercept though. For me its a passive game thst slot does not want. Elliott is too passive with the ball. If you look at macallister his first though is the forward pass. The progressive pass Elliott seems too happy to knock it back where it game from if someone half presses him. Take it in. Beat the guy. Turn and pass forward, have the options l. Elliott is basically too nice. Macallister is a warrior on the park. So is Szoboszlai. They want it, they can rough it, they can drive on. Elliott has the skills but he's just not showing thst edge. Like thst Holland game. First half he was not doing anything. Its not every game you get a goal or two when you do thst but he's done well at this level.
The Everton song lost me when it started bragging "going to win trophies." They haven't won anything of any kind in over 30 years, and they were a much better team 30 years ago than they are now... much better team 20 years ago than they are now... much better team 10 years ago than they are now. The last several years "not getting relegated" has been considered a success... bragging how they're "going to win trophies" seems a bit silly. But I guess "we're going to stabilize the club and stop our free fall" doesn't sound as good in a song.
