When I was a kid, I was at school in Filey, then went to Driffield when we moved. All my mates were either Liverpool or Man Utd fans at Filey, so that was who I was “supporting.”
Driffield, start of ‘86 similar, with the odd Leeds fan & the even rarer City fan.
I remember my first FA Cup Final from ‘85, Utd v Everton, Kevin Moran the first player to be sent off & Norman Whiteside to score the winner in extra time.
In all this time, I’d always been keeping an eye on local teams, Scarborough in the Gola league, via the Evening News & Hull City, mostly via Match magazine & Radio Humberside. Every time a goal was scored by Hull, Grimsby or Scunny, there was a ,”& it’s there,” pop up on the radio & I’d be wondering who it was that scored, was it Hull?
In the summer of ‘85 I decided I had to make a decision, TBH, despite everything, I’m quite happy to be celebrating 40 years of supporting City, although I didn’t get to my first game until ‘91, I’ve been to at least 1 game every season, except for the 20/21 season.
Looking back at the teams I could have supported, shows plenty of success, but i think I’d be more unhappy when those teams failed than I am when City fail.
It’s gutting, but not world ending.<cheers>

I left Driffield long before you settled there but there were a hell of a lot of Leeds fans back then. There's a few more Tigers fans nowadays though and when my cousin lived in Driff and I came down for games we used to get the mini bus from outside Dave Ruggs house up Northfield:emoticon-0148-yes:

I was born in 69 and remember my early years always thinking I should support Man Utd or Liverpool. I don’t recall any other choice really.

Once I went to secondary school though in 1980 I remember seeing the green sports mail every Saturday. I don’t know why but it really piqued my interest and I nagged my dad to buy it. From the first time I read a report on City, on a Saturday evening, I was hooked. I persuaded my Dad to take me to BP one day and I’ve hardly missed a home game since. I miss the sports mail and I wonder how many others got into City because of it ?

1st season pass bought for me as a birthday present in 1964 (a book of perforated tear out numbers you had to match to the number displayed on the turnstile). My dad made me a wooden stool which we carried to the ground for me stand on so that I could see. At least he carried it I was carrying my rattle!

Had one every year since , now on my 61st season pass (membership).

When we moved away from the East Riding 8 years ago (Grandpareting duties) it was a condition of the move that I still attend every home game. 180 mile round trip each time.

One benefit that Ihadn't banked on was there are a number of away games which are so much closer now - win/win.
