There’s a coupe of old school sweets shops near me, one in Lyndhurst, which does all these sweets and the other in Lymington by the quayside, might have to adventure that way
Sacco's was a big part of my childhood, Carl is keeping the flag flying! Fortes too - how lucky to have two class ket shops to visit before going to the Fairworld picture house. Happy says.
If sacco's didn't sell it, it didn't exist. What a shop that was in its day, never seen so many sweets. He must have got sick of kids coming in for 2oz of loads of different sweets though. You could walk out with loads of those little white paper bags of sweets, and spend next to nowt. Used to play snooker in the back of Fortes, the tables were crap though.
Going to add strawberry laces, the fizzy kind and ring pops. But think ring pops were a 90s/00s thing
They were indeed, push pops were the predecessor to the ring pop in the 90s. Anyone remember the jelly monster things you used to get from.the corner shop...something like this with a foil back.... Shout out to the Golf ball (1p) and Terror Eye(5p) chewing gum
I still pop in to Sacco's occasionally. Everything still priced by the 100g / 4oz, but you just ask for a punds worth and he weighs it out.
Aniseed balls Those wrapped spearmint chews fish n chips milk chocolate pieces- the chips were crinkle cut Pez sweets and the funky dispensers and refreshers on a stick was of course a drumstick! right. I’m cannon up bed before I end up down the corner shop on a ket mission
Hope you're pleased Felltop man. This thread stirs so many childhood memories I'll be lucky if I don't need therapy before it's done. Can hardly believe there are so many sweets I now remember but hadn't thought of for 50 years. Incredible. Can't wait to see what you come up with next.
