This talk of a possible takeover must be very difficult for Simon Hallett.....who has been a saviour for Argyle...being a supporter first and a man of principles that would want any influx of money etc to be along the lines of how he sees the future development of PAFC. The problem about outside investment is that they themselves will have to be answerable to their bosses etc .....and that eventually could change the soul of Argyle from being owned by a supporter first who thinks with his heart still involved....to a soulless monster that lives by the bottom line profit. There are successful big clubs whose supporters will tell you that it is no longer the club that they loved and supported but a soulless monster.....I have heard of Man C supporters from the past no longer enjoying the club that they first joined.....also you hear of what those American brothers did to Man U and swapped the debt away from themselves onto the club....and some of the supporter base leaving and setting up their own club. You just need to be careful what you wish for....because it might not look like how you thought it would.
It seems this IS more than an interest in a minority shareholding. https://www.plymouthherald.co.uk/sport/football/plymouth-argyle-takeover-report-bid-10270738 The shares are Simon Hallett's to sell... or not. I don't know what his personal circumstances are: he had some medical treatment recently I think. Assuming though he is fit to continue, and is happy to do so, then he'll have to make a decision on whether these people are ones he'd like to pass the club onto. As fans, if they are genuinely are private equity investors in the technical sense of the phrase, (which I find hard to believe) then we as fans should want nothing to do with them, no matter how much investment they promise. It's a cut-throat, short term business and if it doesn't work out quickly, they'll be off, turning the lights off behind them. The whole business model is based on making a lot of investments. If some fail, that's par for the course as long as those that do succeed do so big-time. The whole raison d'etre of such funds is to buy undervalued assets, puff them up over as short a period as possible and then to sell them on at a profit. Sometimes it realises real value and lets promising businesses off the leash to show their true worth. On the other occasions, it often ends with business ceasing to trade. Private equity has it's place. They do a great job in finding value (I have worked with them before) which the original owners didn't see but It they really are not the sort of people you want having custody of your football club.
Tom Cleverley has named his staff.....they are....Damon Lathrope Assistant Head Coach.....Matt Bevans First Team Coach.....Chris Douglas First Team Performance Analyst......all worked with Cleverley at Watford. Add to this list.....Kevin Nancekivell first team coach and Darryl Flahavan Goalkeeper Coach. Adin Osmanbasic and Eddie Lattimore have both left the club.
I looked up the Storch family your mentioned Plym. I'd missed any previous reference to them. It's somewhat confusing as there's a hip-hop star of the same name. I presume this is who they're referring to... or rather some of the family behind it. https://www.flossbachvonstorch.de/en https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flossbach_von_Storch Just the EUR 50 billion under management......
There’s a surprise. Can’t be a nice feeling being carted around the world at the discretion of someone else…..
First interview with Tom Cleverley is up on Argyle TV. This is pretty faithful transcript.... https://www.plymouthherald.co.uk/sport/football/tom-cleverley-guarantees-plymouth-argyle-10273029
BC....there is no reason why Lyndy shouldn't still be with us......he is I would think.... employed as office staff so he wouldn't be effected by all this coming and going.
Try not too be upset everyone.....but Chris Wilder has left Sheffield United by mutual agreement......within an hour Ruben Selles was announced as their new manager.
It's a busy time of year for the non-playing staff at a football club I imagine, especially when you've changed divisions bringing a bigger turnover of players and manager and coaching staff too as in this case! Plus, it's your only chance of a holiday!
INCOMING Xavier Amaechi...English born Nigerian,5ft 10in left footed No10 .....been playing in Germany...for FC Magdeburg. Has played for England at every age group between U15 upto U20....24 years old.....signed a 3 year deal. Sounds as if he could be an exciting.
Who’s Tom Randle? A relative of Adam Randell perhaps? Tom Cleverley confirms Adam Randell set for Plymouth Argyle exit https://www.plymouthherald.co.uk/sp...ymouth-argyle-bristol-10274742?utm_source=app
Tom Randle is an Argyle recruitment man. Randell leaving???? Been on the cards for weeks now so not even a flicker of surprise. Wilder being sacked by Sheff United again been in the news for days now so again not a flicker of surprise. Couldn't happen to a nicer bloke.
What a moron Trump is.......Juventus mens squad visited the White House....and Trump asked them could a women play for your team.....turned into a very awkward moment....I don't think anyone knew how to explain to him that they were a mens team.
And he’s the man determining our security with his decisions on the conflict between Israel and various others! Personally, although Israel has gone far, far too far, I do think he should use the opportunity to take out Iran’s nuclear facilities. The risk Iran with nukes would pose is just too great. Only America has the weapons to do this although similar bombs were developed by Barnes Walis back in WW2. It’s not as if the Iranians need civilian nuclear power. They have huge reserves of oil on their own premises and unlimited sunshine for solar power as they go green.
This is a fairly disgusting piece of journalism given that there have as far as I know, been no official statements on the subject. Unless journos know more than they're saying (which would be unlikely as it's often the other way around), I don't know what the justification is. https://www.plymouthherald.co.uk/sport/sport-opinion/red-flags-behind-gareth-bale-10282169 Simon Hallett is an ex senior executive of Harding Loevner, which explains what it does here: https://www.hardingloevner.com/strategies/ and where it gets it's money here: https://www.hardingloevner.com/ways-to-invest/ It seems the potential new lot are associated with Flossbach von Storch. Tis is what it does and invests in: https://www.flossbachvonstorch.de/en/philosophy/investment-guidelines What's the difference? Flossbach von Storch's website is not as easy to read as its horribly over-engineered. One phrase does stick out: "Our top priority is to preserve the purchasing power of the assets entrusted to us". A full blown private equity fund would state something like "Our top priority is to earn a stonking great return on your money, really quite obscene to be honest, although there's a substantial risk you may lose your shirt". They will invest your money in private equity funds if you wish: https://www.flossbachvonstorch.de/en/investing/private-asset-management but the do not make private equity investments themselves: they place investors' funds in US and European private equity funds which are not operated by them. Simon Hallett has invested in Argyle as an individual, it's actually nothing to do with Harding Loevner, and presumably it would be exactly the same with this potential new lot. But there's nothing in their career record to justify the hysteria. As to their characters, we don't know. When I saw "private equity" I panicked although football is probably too risky even for private equity funds. But neither Simon Hallett not the Storch's are private equiterrs.
