Andrew Moran may be a midfielder of interest according to the PinkUns newsletter today. The 21year old Brighton LM/CAM has spent the last 2 years on loan with Stoke and Blackburn.
Also according to the PinkUn confidence is growing in our pursuit of Harry Darling, caveates by the admission that there is still a long way to go
The £30m figure in Delap's contract was what they considered he was worth if they went down and to be honest I doubt he would have fetched much more in the open market. Any Premiership Manager who could get Rashford for £30m or Watkins for £40m will not pay £25m for Sargent who has only proved like Pukki and many other Championship players as well, that he can score consistently in the Championship but the EPL is a different kettle of fish. If we don't have to sell him - don't sell him.
How about the fact that they paid £20m for Delap who was much less proven than Sargent? There is a reason that top sides like Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal were all said to be interested in his services, he had performed well and most importantly was available BELOW market value. Relegation release clauses are inserted into contracts so that players know they can move on reasonably easily providing they perform for a fee that isn't prohibitive and the club can recoup what they've spent. The Rashford case is very different, he is a depreciating asset that hasn't performed for Man Utd for the last couple of years, he is home grown so any value they can get is pure profit and due to their struggling finances his extortionate wages have become a sizeable problem for the club. Not to mention his rumoured poor attitude around the squad. Aston Villa are another team with PSR concerns and therefore need to raise funds through player sales. That said I would be surprised if they end up selling their top scorer for £40m, he is however 29 years old now and without CL football seems to want a move to Arsenal. The model we run is that everyone has a price, we are not big enough to flat out refuse significant money and we must show potential players that we will not stand in the way of career opportunities as long as the price is right, now if we don't want to sell that player then the price is inflated somewhat beyond their market value; but if a club comes in willing to pay that "significant fee", to quote Knapper, then we will accept and look to bring in replacements.
I wouldn't accept anywhere near those even if they were £ signs, except maybe Nunez - due to him only having a year left on his current deal. Have we just been robbed by Man City by spending £2m+ on Wright? 2-3 times his market value?
PinkUn boys reporting that we could expect multiple signings this week, with CB and GK in particular focus. CM is also an area being specifically targeted at the moment. I'm suprised we haven't heard much on the winger front as that seems to be an area lacking depth. Also mentioned that the GK department is likely to see significant movement with the potential of 3rd first team GK in and youth options.
I could counter all your points but it will get us nowhere. Suffice to say - I do not think we will get £25m for Sergent but will be delighted if we do and delighted if we don't and he stays here.
Fair enough 1950, I obviously think we could get near that, certainly £20m+, I’d be happy then too but like you I hope we don’t, he stays, and goes on to bag a hatful of goals for us
Beat me to it but I can see the fun comentators will have with the name tho' - Great goal "Darling!" Fantastic tackle "Darling" the list goes on
Just need to sign a ' Baldrick', a 'Melchett', and a 'Blackadder' now. Maybe Stephen Fry could be with Chris Goreham when 'Darling' plays.
Really happy with this signing, by the sounds of it we faced some big competition for his signature. A good 25 year old English CB with leadership qualities on a free transfer is great business! With the added bonus that he knows Manning and his way of playing. Well done Knapper!
I agree. Knapper has made a really good start to this window with the permanent signing of Wright, then Grimshaw and now Darling. The last two know Manning and his tactics and he knows them. The Pinkun journos were becoming resigned to Darling going to Rangers to be reunited with Russ Martin but once again we've pipped them. 25 years is a good age as he moves into his peak years. Excellent.
Another signing, this one for the future: "Norwich City have completed the signing of teenage Stevenage goalkeeper Rylee Mitchell. He has signed a contract until 2028 with a year’s option and will initially link up with Olly Lee’s U21 squad ahead of next season as part of a wider revamp of their goalkeeper department. Mitchell was on trial with City in January, featuring in a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace’s youngsters alongside striker Dylan Jones - who went onto join the club on a permanent basis from Plymouth Parkway in January." https://www.pinkun.com/sport/norwic...y-complete-signing-stevenages-rylee-mitchell/
