Keep hearing on Facebook from a number of sources that Millwall fans were chanting to Cardiff fans today 'Were's your Gary Speed gone?' Disgusting if so, and hopefully those involved will be punished.
I know a Leeds fan who was at the game last week, and he's not mentioned anything about them being out of order with regards the Speed tribute then. I would have thought that was the more likely time for them to be their usual dickhead selves, but I guess their home support would include a lot of numpties who'd take this long to come up with anything that intelligent. If it does get picked up by the press, I would urge people to remember the reports about us when there were the chants about the London bombings. The papers, especially the HDM were a disgrace that over that. How the HDM had the nerve to say their reports were accurate because it's what their reporter at the ground heard I've got no idea. Even QPR fans who were at the game were saying half of it was bollocks, and they were sat a lot closer to the minority involved (as opposed to the majority implied in reports).
Thinking about it, wouldn't their home crowd have a higher proportion of 'proper' fans? Most of the dickhead 'casuals' will be more attracted to away games so they can pretend they're hardcore supporters.
Maybe with the game against Leeds last week been a memorial service for Speed and with his wife, kids and family been there any sort of chanting which has supposedly happened today would be met with a severe media back lash and would tarnish the reputation of the club even more. As much as they hate Leeds and act like utter dicks, could the mindless section of Millwall fans risk having their club being villified to such an extreme as chanting malicious songs about a recently deceased man whilst his family sit in the stands? I don't think it's right that they should chant it at anyone , but can see why they maybe chanted it at Cardiff rather than Leeds fans. As with most things it's probably a minority of idiots who do this sort of thing, but I wouldn't necessarily call it making moutains out of molehills erik, you only have to look at the reactions from Man United and Liverpool fans when teams chant about Munich and Hillsborough to see it's not something that should be brushed under the carpet. Whether it's a minority of idiots or not, it seems really callous to be chanting like they supposedly were about a recently deceased man.
I think Erik was questioning whether it actually took place, that's what I thought when I agreed with him anyway.
Well, I wasn't really questioning whether it took place (though I for one haven't seen conclusive proof, and I'm sure most of the others who are commenting on the situation have). I was saying that if it did happen, why is every football forum on the internet discussing it? If it happened, leave it to Millwall FC, Cardiff City FC and whatever other organisations to deal with it, if they even feel they need to. Gary Speed took his own life and deserted a wife and two children, and if I'm being honest, I can't think of any manner of death I consider less worthy of having the term 'tragic' ascribed to it than that. At the end of the day, some football fans tried to rile some others by singing about the situation. Has the Queen died? Has the Third World War started? Has Earth been invaded by Martians? No, fans of a team known for their, er, 'distinct' behaviour said some words. That's it. I think some people need to get over themselves.
I find it hilarious how everyones making a big thing about it like their clubs are perfect, there will ALWAYS be a minority of brain dead twats at every club. Simply getting blown out of proportion because it was Millwank.
I think emotions are still high after it happened, hence why it's gaining such attention. People will have opinions on the manner in which he died which is fair enough, I've made my feelings clear on the issue before but I'm not wanting to resurface that debate.
My opinions on Gary Speeds death won't be repeated either, always ends up with people hurling abuse at eachother.
Kang may be a **** (well, there's no 'maybe' about it), but he's right to say it's being blown out of proportion because it's Millwall. I have to be honest though and say if they were chanting it, I can understand why to a certain extent. I know they were a bit peeved at being asked to have a minutes-silence for a third successive game, for a man with no connection with their club and who died two weeks ago. (And no, I'm not saying it was right or wrong of them to do so)
Agreed, i've being called a prick already (rather uncalled for) on this thread, I think it's something we can all do without!
I respect the man for who he was, but not for the way he went. Thats all i have to say on the matter. People need to stop acting like bitchy little girls and just get over the fact that a MINORITY of Millwall fans sang some disrespectful chants, but so has every other club.
Kang is a **** for the way he went about commenting, I understand what you're saying and may not agree entirely with what you say on the issue but at least you put your point forward without firing out any insults
You mean exactly like Leeds fans did when they sang "one Don Revie" live on tv away to Blackburn during the one minute's silence to mark Sir Matt Busby's death? edited to include link. You can see what Strachan thought of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRidqG5wecY
I've had a few so may be speaking out of turn. I'm bored to death with the Gary Speed thing now, no pun intended. Out of decency you respect the memory of the man by standing silent or applauding for a minute at a game immediately after his passing. Why Millwall have had to do it three times, **** knows. It's a complete piss take, no wonder some if their fans got narked off. As for Leeds fans bitching about it, if they have that is. Pull the other one. A kid , a Leeds fan,I knew used to sing a song that went; How many lived and how many died in the Munich air disaster? Too many lived and not enough died in the Munich air disaster. It then got a whole lot worse. They can get ****ed if they want to moan about the behaviour of Millwall fans for having a pop at a bloke who topped himself. Double standards as far as I'm concerned. I am drunk and may regret this in the morning.
