If anything sums up the shambles of the new version of the World Club Cup is Bayern Munich playing an amateur team from New Zealand.
This "competition" is about as meaningful as all those qualifying round internationals against San Marino et al. Another cynical FIFA money-grubbing exercise that wears players out a bit more.
So the Kiwi team got hammered 10 nil in todays match. You would think having part time opposition in a club world cup competition that they would at very least be professionals but fair play to them for keeping it out of the record books.
Never will understand the general demeanour you guys show towards things like this I am Gutted we aren’t there A lot more fans from some Of the other clubs are treating the comp with respect and some more like a lot on here it’s strange A lot of good can come from this comp imho
This competition should only have 4 teams in it , the champions of Europe/Asia/Africa/South America this horse manure of a spectacle that is currently being played achieves absolutely nothing.
6 There are 7 continents, but as Antarctic doesn't have any football teams, 6 competitors (which it always was before today)
Depending on definition/convention, there can be between four and seven continents, although @Mark Blow seems to have left out North America and Australia/Oceania. But given that it's FIFA, it would be based on the number of continental football federations, which as you say would be six.
This thing in Saudi? Once I heard we were not in it mate I ignored it. There is a political element to it big time amd infantino is not someone to respect. In general however I am truly hopeful this will ruin all those clubs season next year and we sweep the board
Haven’t read a single thing about it, just knew chelsea and city were going to be in it. So seeing yesterday that an amateur team from New Zealand and Inter Miami, a team that was established 5 years ago, and just so happens to have Messi playing for them are in it just tells me I was right to completely ignore this farce
Add in the potential for injuries and heat exhaustion/fatigue after a packed season...its money motivated for sure. No amount of money would replace 1 or 2 star players getting an injury when they are meant to be recovering for next season. They get little time as is so I suppose can always use as a fallback excuse if they are tired going into a season.
Yep in the scorching heat of a USA summer, in stadiums that that don't have roofs so no cover or shade anywhere. Saudi's are the financial backing. Infantino has basically been bought by the Middle East. I can see the European teams being ****ed by the time the season starts, as they are likely to be the ones that make it to the latter stages.
Even when it was 6 people derided it Generally (not everyone) in this country we poo poo competitions I think we covered this before I just don’t get it I try to honestly and sit and say nothing but I figure we are all friends here lmao I just wish we treated all these comps as not equal but with more respect. to be the best club team in the world, for me has to be your goal - I just wish the process was faster Let’s just expand the CL
I haven't had an opinion on it at all but reading your comment made me think. In most things I always look for - what is the intention? With regard to this competition the answer could only be - to make money. It isn't advancing the game or drawing attention to it for those who aren't into football. I don't think they're donating massive amounts to grassroots level. There's such a huge gulf in quality of teams taking part, it isn't a fair competition. I'm imagining how the NZ team and fans are feeling? The trade off for taking part was being utterly humiliated/humbled but they were willing to do so because they made a lot of money in the process. Football is selling its soul and it's not pleasant watching it.
You could literally attach that argument to the Prem (not saying I do but you could easily) and the CL Nonsense counter argument to me that one - sorry you compete to be the best In every sport - end of And from what I have gleaned in your case - you wish to be entertained
Again - sadly that is the basis of all sports You could argue that Saints have been humbled all season Football is business if the club from NZ take their money back and invest it it MAY do some good not saying it will but has the capacity too the world cups in the early stages were bobbins too (as in the 1930’s) but look what happened… As I said above - in sport your drive has to be the best their is - World is the only way you can probably prove this not these silly American World Series jobs I mean best in the World I hope it is successful and I hope we represent in it at some point
