Can we not have a single thread for Sunderland transfers only? Rumour or not, just hat a table hoyed up with the name, price, position and link to the source
Nmencha won't be signing for us, he's just signed for Leeds https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/c4g2gwg05kno
We aren't going to move away from the model. It's got us this far so why change it now. We will give minutes to players that perhaps nobody else would, will it work? Maybe, maybe not. But teams have done the 'experienced' route and have went straight back down as well, 'experience' is no guarantee for success. We will definitely sign players who can 100% play at the required level, but we'll also sign the Charlie Gray types. And i'd rather give him minutes than Henderson, but that's just how I see things I suppose.
Tbf we can still sign exciting young players but ones that can do a job now. You could get players like this for 15-30m surely
can do both. We’re going to sign a lot of players. There will be a real mix, experienced, young prem ready, young squad players, experienced squad players.
We need to sign a few who are instant starters. Simple as that we will still continue with the model for other signings though
I mean players who can play at this level could also be squad players we need a few who walk into the team every week
Of course, but Gray is the type we should be signing. It's about the next 5 years (Speakman said that), not just about next season. Staying up would be great but giving ourselves the best chance at bouncing straight back is the key.
Spot on, can't just go to short term thinking because we are back in the PL. The balance will be between players who can contribute now (still reckon these will be on the younger side) and then players who will likely come into the 1st team picture 12+ months from now
Supporters need to be mentally ready that our first signing might not blow their socks off. We are going to sign all sorts of players this window. Not all of them will be indicative of the first one. Trust the club and the process.
People can do what they like but that would suit me tbh. I've absolutely no interest in seeing which foreign player, I've never heard of, is being transferred from a Norwegian club, I've never heard of, to a Portuguese club, I've never heard of .... some of the names could be on Countdown and make more sense and at least you get Rachel Riley please log in to view this image
People who don't trust the club and the process at this point don't have vision or courage. The idea that we should buy mainly experience, proven players and do it like everyone else is the most mediocre vision of what we can be.
you’re right. There’s just naturally a lot of excitement about the types of signings we could make this window. All I’m saying is that the first signing might not be that exciting “wow” signing. It might be a kid like Gray or it might be the sub keeper! I just hope people don’t read too much into who the first signing is. Obviously in an ideal world it would be some amazing player who tells the world we mean business, but it’s not an ideal world and the first signing is no indication as to who might follow.
Buying the same old predictable players would make us the same as everyone else ... ... we've been promoted by doing thing differently and it's been wonderful. The recently promoted teams like Sheff Utd, Luton, Burnley, etc are just boring and predictable. We're better than that.
