I’d think Mvogo might want to play in World Cup year so he might only be an option if he was to be first choice, which I doubt think he’d be enough of a step up to justify dropping Patto. We need somebody good enough to play premier league football but who has no chance of playing in the World Cup so is more willing to be backup.
Outfield depth is different as it’s drastically more likely to be used. I’d still prefer a smaller squad of greater versatility though. Two players per position isn’t really the best way to think about things in reality. Even more so when you consider who our boss is!
In our last 10 premier league seasons our “ cover” keeper played over 100 times so roughly 10 games a season on average. At various times that role was effectively filled by Mannone, Pantilimon, Pickford, Fulop, Mignolet, and Westwood. I think it’s safe to say they would all be a long way ahead of Moore and arguably most could be ahead of Patto. We definitely need a keeper in my opinion.
Whatever we do that winger and fullback depth needs to be addressed. We have Mundle and Roberts. Poveda needs shifted and Watson is gone
See I’d argue that a lot of that was just indecision. For so much of our PL stint we spent our time choosing between equally mediocre keepers. We were unconvinced with one option so we switched to another unconvincing option - often only to switch back when it priced to be ineffective. To be fair, it worked out for us once. That injury to Mannone that opened the door to Pickford made a big difference - even if it only amounted to a £30m chunk out of our debt.
The idea that we'll spend £100m on players and then not protect our status as a Premier League club by spending £3m on a keeper is far from logical in my opinion. I understand the "theory" of the argument perfectly well, but reality is that the situation will not come down to "either a first team player or a reserve keeper". Last season, these are the teams that had a 2nd keeper playing 5+ games: Liverpool Newcastle Man City Spurs Ipswich West Ham Leicester Wolves Chelsea Southampton Bournemouth I'm not sure if that's a statistical anomaly, but it's not worth the risk for me.
Definitely don't want us spending loads on a back up GK but quite happy if we sign a quality one and it costs a couple minutes If Moore is back up we are a Patterson injury away from a potential disaster Need 2 good Gks for the PL as a minimum, Moore would be a class no3 imo due to his attitude around the squad Don't think anyone is wanting silly money spent on a back up GK but we need to be strengthening across the board for sure
Hope Graeme is chatting **** as usual. If he is who we want I hope we move quick. That’s Us, Everton, Fulham, Leeds and these now linked
Yep. I’d be concentrating on high quality and versatility though. Would be sorely tempted to roll the dice at right back given how robust Hume is (with O’Nien and maybe even Huggins in there). Left back is more complicated. Wingers are key, but even then it should be quality rather than quantity if possible. Starter on the right plus an option who can play either side (and maybe through the middle) would be plenty for us imo.
Huge amount of work to be done on incomings and outgoings. window back open tomorrow will we see movement this week?
Tbf i'd be willing to pull a triple deal with kyiv like forest are doing with botafogo if it got us a good deal. I'm still pretty big on Mykhavko and Brazhko - wolves were after the latter in January alongside a couple other prem sides and was almost agreed but they couldn't sort out a payment structure.
I still think first signing won’t be until July and people are going to get sooooo twitchy. But then they’ll come at pace.
