Its more the obvious fakery about someone that i have an issue with - almost pops the illusion that the platform can be taken in any way seriously.

Its a shame as it used to be great, but completely ruined. Fake AI videos are also doing the same for many other platforms for me.

I never used to bother with twitter/x but I joined when I saw loads of a certain political view bailing out:emoticon-0102-bigsm

I go on when I feel like it and follow certain subjects/topics/individuals who put out alternative views and news that differs from that of the corrupt broadcasting corporation...Yep,I'm a convert:emoticon-0148-yes:

So you do get the criticism.

Ads disguising themselves as tweets that you can't filter out on your "following" is the criticism. You're acting like you're the first to discover the following function. "just scroll past them" isn't really a solution.

I switched to Blue Sky, but there’s very little traffic on there, so I ended up back on X.

I don’t really post nowadays though, other than commenting on inaccurate ****e others have posted.

    Mainly Americans.

Of course I get the criticism. That's why I commented my opinion about it. And that's all it is, just my opinion. If you disagree then fine, just say you disagree (and maybe add why). A milli-second scrolling past ads and the occasional obvious fake is no big deal for me. After all we waste hours a day on here :emoticon-0105-wink:. Do you refuse to use and slate anything that carries ads and the potential for the odd fake? I guess you refuse to visit HDM for example.

    Rubbish
You still get all the advertised ****
Plus if you want to use it for keeping abreast of current affairs then using the ‘following’ option sparingly can mean you don’t see some useful stuff that the people you’re following aren’t interested in.
It used to be really good, but it’s ****e now even if you agreed with Musk’s politics and the majority of right wing posters.
Plus even if you only read your followers posts their feeds and replies are often full of adverts and OF teasers

Plus the politics and vitriol of the owner is very much a ‘tool’ problem not a user one so I wouldn’t want to give him money anyway

Ok great, so earlier when you said "I really don't get the criticism of X/Twitter" you were mistaken.

I think you misunderstand the difference between an HDM article - with clearly identifiable ads - and a curated social media page. As you pointed out, the 'Following' section of Twitter should be for, er, people you follow.

FFS! I literally posted about the ads and fake posts when using the 'following' filter, saying how, imo, it really isn't a big issue (for me at least) to spend a milli-second to scroll past and ignore!
And yes, if someone only uses a selected few of their Twitter 'following' sources to get their news, insights, etc then yes of course it would be near to an echo chamber but I didn't say I did, nor recommend, doing that. Doing so would be rather dim and incredibly closed minded imo. I think some on here are too clouded by their personal dislike of Musk to see what's actually being said and what isn't being said. Of course, other news sources, newspapers, social platforms are free from similar issues!!
Personally I dislike most of the content on LBC, particularly O'Brien, but still regularly listen just to try to understand differing views.

I get it, as is in I understand what people are seeing and saying about it.
I don't get it in terms of why some have such a downer on it when a) it's so easy to use the 'following' filter and then skip past the odd advert and fake post, and b) when nearly every other platform, news sources, whatever is nowadays carrying similar stuff (ads, fake stuff, etc), has it's own biases & issues, etc..
My posts explain clearly enough for anyone with even half a brain to understand but maybe it was still a bit too much for one or two on here.

Thanks Citizen and others for the continuing reminders. I really should take your wise advice.

Not sure why you need to descend to insults so rapidly. People have explained why they don't like twitter, you've been condescending and ignored people's complaints. Perhaps time to move on.
