In a match which Liverpool dominated throughout it was a single goal by Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez that defeated Queens Park Rangers with the Reds’ striker grabbing the headlines for the right reasons.

Suarez has had a mixed season so far with the winning goal seeing him get his eight in all competitions this season but the match saw the striker despite performing brilliantly, finding himself often frustrated in front of goal and Liverpool had to withstand moments of pressure themselves, eventually hanging on to the victory.

Liverpool’s domination was seen from the off with the Reds coming out all guns blazing after a 0-1 defeat to another London side Fulham in their last game. In a traditional 3PM kick-off for the side, they were looking to continue their undefeated home record for the season although a draw would not have been good enough, a result that has left them frustrated against fellow promoted teams Norwich and Swansea so far this season.

A quick start for Liverpool saw them gain three corners inside three minutes, failing to convert anyway and it was the Reds lack of finishing in front of goal which saw them go in to the half time interval level, 0-0 with QPR. Luis Suarez saw himself frustrated, missing a seemingly simple header from close range, heading straight in to the hands of Radek Cerny.

Much like Liverpool’s draws against both Swansea and Norwich, Anfield seemed to bring out the best of QPR’s third choice goalkeeper Cerny. The ‘keeper was undoubtedly the visitors star player, pulling off a number of fantastic saves in the match to mean Liverpool finished the match perhaps more nervously than they would have liked. In fact QPR’s goalkeeper had to make 7 saves in total compared to only 1 by Pepe Reina of Liverpool.

It was early in the second half that Liverpool found the all-important breakthrough goal. Charlie Adam, who was celebrating his birthday was the provider, setting up Luis Suarez to head home from his cross.

Maxi Rodriguez was also a guilty culprit for wastefulness in front of goal with the Argentine failing to continue his rich run of goal-scoring as he returned to the first team ahead of Craig Bellamy. The Welshman entered the game late on, only to be booked for arguing with the referee, he almost doubled Liverpool’s lead however when his cross was turned on to the cross bar by Shaun Wright-Phillips, Liverpool continuing their woodwork curse.

Liverpool finished the game with a massive 25 shots and 17 shots, with 8 on target although they were only able to convert one in to a goal, the Reds know they need to be more clinical to guarantee success in the future.

    Man of the Match

For me this has to go to the match-winner Luis Suarez who’s goal sees Liverpool pick up an important three points. The Uruguayan was extremely lively throughout and was perhaps unfortunate only to pick up one goal for the side. The performance comes after controversy in the week as the striker once again proves his talent on the pitch.

Other honourable mentions for great performances go to Charlie Adam who has been an important player in a number of vital wins so far this season, Stewart Downing who has been unfortunate and had a slow start to life at Anfield although he was generally lively and creative today, and Martin Skrtel who continued his impressive partnership with Daniel Agger in defense, the Slovakian won all his tackles, 3 out of 4 air duels and had 89% pass accuracy as he continues to keep Jamie Carragher out of the team.

My match report - they battered us and it was a miracle that we only lost 1 nil.

Oh yeh, he was, I was just talking about Liverpool's man of the match and the players that performed best for us, overall Cerny would have got the award.

Poor performance by us, no point dominating if we can barely score. I honestly thought QPR were going to get an equaliser at the end. Good to see Maxi play, he gets in lots of great positions and looks like he will score. Downing on the other hand dissapeard again and should really be left on the bench with Carroll. Henderson and Adam had a good game in midfield.

Adam is doing really well. He's done far better than I expected. He's doing the business, we just need a goalscorer.

I'm bored waiting now, lets get a poacher in Jan.

    Is Kevin Phillips available?

    He's no Kevin Phillips!

Might have to settle for David Villa. Sigh.

Yeah I agree. I've said it before too.

I feel really sorry for him to be honest and really hope he comes good. But is running out of time.

Just a brace would take the pressure off.

The problem we have at the moment is that we play better without him in the first team

That's a fair shout in all honesty, Warnock I'm sure would get the best out of him
