The amount of football content I consume has dropped massively in the last few years and I've noticed particularly on the transfer rumours threads that I have very little knowledge of foreign football anymore. I'm looking to watch and read more next season and I'm looking for some suggestions from you lot - especially if you follow European leagues and especially more obscure stuff. If you watch specific programs or highlights packages, tell me where they can be found. Any good podcasts, youtube channels. I don't have X but throw some of those follows in there as well, might be good for others. Here's my list: TV Sky/TNT - us, Super Sunday and later stages Champions League YouTube Sunderland AFC - obviously. Great content Sunderland Echo - "On The Whistle". I quite like Phil Smith and his summaries. The Overlap - I pick and choose the ones I listen too. Neville and Carra are a bit annoying but Keane is great value. HITC Sevens - Watch maybe 1 in 10 of these videos. I like the information rather than the way it's presented. Zealandism - This is a football manager content creator who talks real football on this channel. Again, don't love a lot of his takes, but it's random football stories that I wouldn't find in other places. Bundesliga - Just watch shorts and Highlights every now and again. Podcasts On The Continent - Weekly European football discussion, hosted by Dotun with Andy Brassell and a second journalist every week. They're all good but Lars Sivertson and David Cartlidge (MLF) are my favourites. WTF Podcast - Graham's content is the best fan stuff out there on Sunderland in my opinion. His preview pods are popular but it's the review that is my highlight, always take it in on my Sunday morning walk. Sweeper - Once a fortnight Lee Wingate and Paul Watson talk about the football stories you won't hear anywhere else. The Norwegian club who gives the motm trays of eggs as a prize, the 14 year old keeper who has an international cap, the Madeira derby, the Copa Chile game played 500 miles off the coast of the mainland. Quirky and fascinating. Libero - Just started this one. Seems to be your Guardian (and Friends) journalists who like to talk about football and the geo-politics involved too. Jonathan Wilson, Barney Ronay, Rory Smith, Horncastle and others. The Football Ramble - Haven't listened to this much in years but I might pick it up again with us in the Prem. Second Tier Podcast - I've enjoyed it the last couple of years, might bin it off this year. Not The Top 20 - A bit more serious than second tier, but covers all the football league. Might still give this a listen to keep in touch with the rest of English football.
I literally watch Sunderland and the occasional other match (but usually only half watch as I scroll on my phone). I don’t listen to any footy podcasts or watch any YouTube on football other than stuff the club produce and AltEnding’s stuff the one thing I do do is subscribe to the athletic as I really enjoy the depth and reliability of the journalists there
TikTok is excellent for football content. Has a great algorithm and I get brilliant stuff from leagues I wouldn’t normally watch and such which I find really interesting.
Good shouts mate, I forgot about both of those. I also have the Athletic and have watched many of AltEndings videos which are great.
I've never done TikTok mate, I feel like my parents and technology when it comes to this. No idea what it is or why it's useful. Is there long form videos or is it all these shorts and clips that you get everywhere? Who are the good accounts to follow?
There’s a lot of longer content, I don’t actually follow many bar folk I know and SAFC but it recognises your likes and pumps you lots of great stuff. It of course also tracks your movement so while we are talking about players, I magically get Ligue 1 and Bundesliga stuff popping up. Some folk don’t like this technology, I love it. I get bargains, I learn about things. It’s a good platform. It’s also great for funny ****. I don’t see any of this modern kids PC bollocks on mine now. Just looked Passion Pride Wearside Ultras 77 ALS Gilesy Sunderland AFC Hamburg SV ACF Fiorentina Awaydays TNT Sky Sports Football EFL (they love Sunderland content) Football away days CBS goalazo PL so I actually do follow a few That brings in loads more similar
Enjoy Sunderland echo’s stuff, think Phil smith speaks a lot of sense and his love for the club comes through even though he’s always professional as a journalist. Started watching second tier this year. Really good channel, don’t agree with some of what they say but it’s cool to get a neutrals perspective. Another point on the second tier / not the top 20. I think it’s really cool they’re trying to get some engagement for the pyramid as the prem is becoming so distant. Think they do a good job of selling the EFL and all the clubs in it. Won’t watch as much next season obviously but will keep an eye on their content.
Think the Championship is getting very well known now. Was surprised by the depth of some of the convos I had in Gran Canaria. They knew all about the top half of the league at least.
It’s growing for sure, it’s an outstanding league for entertainment and has that old school feel to it, like ‘proper football’ if that’s the right way to say it. That being said, it’s a bloody slog watching Sunderland play in it, not good for the heart rate I know that. Next seasons league will be a cracker.
Oh aye be so tight next season. I do think Ipswich well clear but after that it’s a bit of a free for all. Not to be overlooked the exposure of the club being back in PL on FIFA (EAFC) SOL been in game for years this is tens of millions of potential new exposures.
I don't listen or watch much SAFC content personally, I watch the stuff from the club channels but stuff like Roker Report or WMS isn't for me. NTT20 is my most listened to podcast every year and I'll probably still listen to it even though we aren't in the EFL. The Overlap is pretty good, bit repetitive sometimes but it's normally a good listen. The Overlap have a tactics YouTube channel called 'The Breakdown' and I watch pretty much every video, very good stuff if you are into tactics or player profiles. James Allcott produces interesting content across numerous channels.
I've seen some Allcott stuff, don't mind him. I'll go and search for "The Breakdown" because that will be up my street. What about European football content? You clearly watch plenty of European stuff.
I struggle to watch games that don’t involve or directly effect us, love the content both the club and our fans put out, what the falk is my go too, sensible Sunderland is brilliant just a good set of lads having a laugh about the match that doesn’t take itself seriously, I don’t mind roker reports new pod either but the other 2 mentioned are more my taste edit how could I forget alt ending, his breakdowns are great for someone like me who doesn’t pick up on the intricacies of in games tactics
My favourite has always been the coaches voice. Some of the masterclass stuff is insanely good. Best thing is it is real coaches often talking through how they did stuff. If I am going to watch or listen to something I want it to be by people with real lived experience.
Totally Football Show is a good listen, James Richardson knows his stuff especially on Serie A. Tifo Football's YouTube videos are good. A bit short for my liking but they cover everything from the actual football to politics involved in football. You mentioned HITC Sevens, I enjoy his Hull rants especially Brazil Shirt Name is one I listen to semi regularly. Tim Vickery knows everything there is to know about South American football but they cover Europe as well
There’s a class video on the NI national team page of Trai and Big Dan prank calling the rest of the squad. You can see they proper pals them 2.
Monday Night Football is the best football show on TV for me. Especially when they have a guest coach on. Looking forward to watching us on there.
