So important imo. I know Neil had some poor games, but we mustnt overlook the overall contribution as captain he made. He is rumoured to be one of the lesser paid first teamers so a new deal on proper terms is fully earned. I really dont think we can bring in players on significant money this summer, without giving lads like Neil parity. A mate of mine reckons the Roma interest is genuine. I think Italy would be so good for Neil from a footballing perspective. But I am sure he wants to stay with his own club and drive us forward again. Lets get him signed up.
yeh this was my point yesterday. People think we hold all the advantage here but we don’t. Our player can make it clear he wants to leave and has already chosen where. Of course he has a contract but we aren’t the kind to hold on to players against their will, we’ve shown that. We should absolutely stand as firm as we can but there’s no way Dortmund pay 40m euros and there’s no way Jobe is staying with us so the compromise will have to come at some point
Parity isn’t going to happen when we are targeting a higher calibre of player, we’d be back in an Ellis Short state in no time. We will be looking to give them PL salaries. It’s a myth that all PL wages are wild there’s a handful at most clubs on stacks more than the status quo. Only the really higher clubs pay everyone a fortune. The ‘average’ PL salary is 67k. That means given the amount on 80-400k, there’s a huge amount in the 20-40k bracket. If we take Dan from his rumoured less than 5-25-30k, he isn’t gonna spit his Fanny out that Enzo is getting 55.
Neil was 3rd in the league for his position to win the ball back this season. Only 2 players did it more. Think that’s something a lot don’t notice (guilty of it myself too). He’s very good at screening.
This is true, but their alleged lowballing offers so far have been disrespectful to our club and to the player himself. I trust us to find a happy medium and bag ourselves a canny sell on too.
Yep. Still very young really, and with loads of games in him. He is one of us, get the lad signed up, he is what we are all about. That role he plays is a tough one, especially in England. But he can play alright, and if Roma are interested I'm not surprised. They have probably seen how well Billy Gilmour did at title winning Napoli this season, after struggling a bit here for a year or two. I watched them a few times and he was excellent. They revere him and McTominay there now.
I dont see Dan grumbling much, this is his club and you can see how much it means to him to play for us. But in reality we have to be careful about how much more valuable some of the new lads will actually be, over those lads that have got us here. So I dont suppose Dan will go to the Le Fee salary, but surely him being on half of it is just wrong. I dont think he will jump ship for money, but I would like the club to value players fairly. I think we have players who deserve somewhere close to Le Fee and other new lads we sign on bigger deals as well as Neil. Hume immediately springs to mind. Another who I dont think we can do without in the premier league and whose contribution is huge to the team. Then we have Mayenda who has made the limelight and gained international recognition.
I think what those 2 have done in Italy has opened a lot of eyes to how talented some of the young british lads are, given a better chance than a lot of premier league clubs seem willing to do. I often wonder if it werent for the homegrown rule how many would get any sort of chance.
Well the lads took the chance, so they deserve the pay off. In Gilmour's case, I think the slightly slower pace there is a gift from Heaven for him. It allows his crisp passing and control to thrive. McTominay is just an excellent player. Only UTD could sell him for £28m and then spend twice as much on Ugarte. Batshit crazy business that, whatever any rules say. Conte knows his onions alright!
