Something tells me we won’t be getting Tyler Morton when Leverkusen had a £20m bid rejected for him last season.
Guess it depends on how long left he has on his contract, but as others have said I suspect his value may be out of our price range
They were stupid to do that. He’s barely played. You can probably get him for around a quarter of that now
As good as Morton was/is... he went missing when Seri wasn't alongside him. We look certain to lose Alzate and potentially Puerta. Leaves us very light if Slater goes too... With Mattazo not back until November with hopefully Zambrano also, means we have a midfield of Crooks and Palmer, Palmer and Crooks and Harry Vaughan.
That not his job. He will be a Head Coach like his predecessors. He might have a "veto" but the head of recruitment is the one drawing up the list of players we are going after...and if he does veto all thier suggestions he'll end up with a weak squad like Walter did.
An interesting take considering our defenders were far, far more involved in progressive play under Walter than they were under Selles and Rosenior. They were prompted to be far more involved off the ball as well. The biggest criticism of Walter was that players were massively out of position when we'd lose the ball due to a **** pass. The problem with Walter's tactics was that players ended up all over the place in possession rather than creating spaces within their 'general areas' to play through or into. We still now play far too conservatively in possession unless we manage to win the ball higher up the pitch, or unless we defend a set piece and it falls to a player willing to progress the ball quickly, like a midfielder or a winger. It's got absolutely nothing to do with Walter or his tactics and it ended up counting for less than half of the season anyways so that claim makes no sense at all. If anything, Walter was trying to remedy the issue, but the big problem was that the philosophy was too gung ho and was way more than the players could handle so they mostly ended up looking like headless chickens. When our defensive line still aren't progressing the ball now, and barely did before Walter's tenure, it's a real stretch to claim its down to him. Just accept some of our defenders are limited at playing the ball. Always seems like it's pitchforks at the ready when people talk about this, but its been a really big problem for us for a long time and there are consistent players in that mix that are the culprits of it.
I think that players can go forward but other players must cover automatically and I guess that’s the issue , fear of blame maybe ?
The defenders had to be involved because no ****er else was. Before Walter came it was said that the players constantly move into different positions, rotate about etc and it was all bollocks. All that happened was occassionally Macca would burst up the field and then come back. Aside from that, and a maybe 2 or 3 games max, it was the defenders passing to each other with no one offering them owt, before hoofing it up the field or losing it. Maybe Walter would have been able to implement whatever his style was meant to be in if Acun hadn’t ****ed him in the transfer market.
