So when you do not have any CBs to play it is always going to be tough, and it does not help that when you are losing and trying to attack you lose a player. We scored two good goals but our cobbled together defence was never going to hold.

However next match we could have a starting line up of:

    -----------------------Krul------------------------
    Simpson----------Wilo------Colo-------------Santon
    Obertan---------Cabaye-----Tiote-------------Jonas
    ---------------------Ben Arfa-----------------------
    ------------------------Ba-------------------------

And we are playing Swansea at St James' so we should get back to winning ways. :)

One bad result is no need to panic, especially when it was in the circumstances that it was.

That is a lineup I am comfortable with BUT Pardew will still play Raylor for no justifiable reason.

That 'best case scenario' line-up looks great!

However, it is also likely to be the same defense as today with Smith in midfield!

    Fingers crossed.

I'd much prefer the line up to be..

But unfortunately Pardew doesnt think HBA is capable of being on the wing. So we'll see more wonderful play from Obertan <doh>

Ben Arfa is not a winger though. He is an attacking midfielder, in the hole or supporting a striker.

Ben Arfa can play on the wing. I just wish Pardew was willing to try it instead of Obertan and Sameobi.

He's capable of playing on the wing but we'd have no width what so ever with him and Jonas.

Then he'd be a CAM playing on the wing. Honestly the reactions you get when this is suggested you'd think someone had said stick Krul up front!

On injuries, Coloccini 'likely' to return for Swansea game, both Tiote and Williamson in with a 'good chance' too. #NUFC

HBA won't give width - if we've got him at RW, we'll need Tiote back, to help cover the back 4, and particularly Simpson on the right.

If you put him on the wing then he will just cut inside all the time and never track back. Whereas in the centre he can roam about causing havoc, pulling players about. He is potentially our best and most deadly player so we should play him in his best position so he can be his most effective and dangerous.

Lets face it, he is better on the right wing than he is on the bench, which is where he seems to be if Pardew wants to play 2 up top. If we want to play HBA in the hole it means we play just one striker at home to a promoted side. I'd rather HBA on that wing than Obertan and stick Best up top with Ba.

I don't see why people think HBA wouldn't give width. If Pardew tells him to play on the wing and give width then surely he'd play on the wing and give width. If he didn't then frankly he doesn't deserve to pull on the shirt. He's a grown man, not a brainless idiot

Look how Chelsea use Mata that's how we should use Ben Arfa playing LW or Rw and give him license to roam Mata doesn't stay just on the wing he moves around in a free role.

Right winger needed in January. My 3 targets would be M'Biwa, Taiwo/Cissokho, and Barnetta/Hoilett. Sod the striker <laugh>

We only played Shola today because we need as much physical presence as we could. Normally our best formation is a 4-4-1-1 with Ben Arfa behind Ba and I do not think it matters if that means we play with one striker against a promoted side if that is our most effective team which in my opinion it is.

Mata does not play fully on the wing for Chelsea, he plays in a 4-3-3 like how Ben Arfa use to play for Marseille.
