I’m still convinced eddies played a blinder knowing that Mitchell can’t get a deal over the line. And Mitchell has resigned.

Eddie said. “Early deals are essential”.

    Mitchell goes ok, here’s “x y and z”.

    Eddies response “nope”. Not interested.

    Mitchell can’t win.

Eddie wins because he has final say.

I think he loses in the end unless the obstinance disappears. League cup (lols) or not, a repeat season of UCL exit and PL failure won’t be enough. Hes got enough about him to continue to achieve, but this transfer paralysis will have to stop.

We once had a poll about next manager - I think Luis Enrique has shown the way. When the time comes.

If we balked at Mbeumo's reported wage demands of approx £200k per week, then I doubt we'll be contemplating signing someone who's already on that kind of amount and who would also likely want a pay rise to move. Could be wrong, just seems highly unlikely.

    Agree entirely.

Don’t think we have a prayer of anyone better than Elanga or Dibling. Maybe even someone as poor as Elliot, another Barnes. The window for all the bravado Howe stated promises to be disappointing.

Agree. We need to be realistic about who we can attract compared to clubs offering these kind of crazy wages. It puts more emphasis on needing to find young talent before other clubs do. So in that sense, Mitchell is spot on. But we do also need to improve the immediate 1st team squad as well. That will be tough.

What bravado? He simply said we need to act quickly. He didn't say we will spend huge amounts on lots of players.

Currently on £45k a week at Brentford, that rise is mental if that's what he's asked for. Obviously Man U will give it though with Casemiro and Jaydon Sancho on £350k pw and Mason Mount on £250k pw.

Mbeumo couldn't be on more than Isak simple as that, and let's put the £150kpw of Lloyd Kelly behind us as we've now made money on him and he's off the payroll. Let him join Man U then.

Don’t twist man, he said it was going to be a big window for the club, filtered news of two first team players being signed and that we had to move quick.

We’ve managed to submit Ashley style bids for players we weren’t going to get - again - and are staring at a pool of players smaller than the remaining Beatles.

Twist? I was asking you about what you were twisting. Being a "big window" can simply mean it's important, not necessarily about spending loads. It can mean getting the right.players in to ennhance the squad.

And which deals did Howe filter to the press? (based on known fact, not some 'twisted' opinion)

I know you can't stand him, but at least stick to facts when 'quoting' people.

I think howes exceptional as a coach at times. But our scouting is ****ing dire. Something has to give.

A big window means what it says. Moving quick seems fairly obvious. We appear to yet again be doing neither. So at what point is the manager misleading the fans or letting the club down?

Maybe a big window was planned but Mitchell has since resigned.

As has been mentioned, it's odd that he already has a new role lined up within days of announcing his departure - unless it was already agreed and that is why he is going. These roles take a while to complete due diligence, especially in Saudi.

So why is Howe being misleading if he genuinely says it's a big window but then the DoF fooks off? Unless you just want to blame Howe.

Also, while it appears Howe has final say on signings (rightly or wrongly), he is not personally in charge of scouting new talent.

I'm certainly not a fanboy, but Howe sure needs some defending ftom a couple of posters on here, who probably also blame him for Covid, trade tariffs and hacking Netflix accounts.

I think Howe has some accountability for his nephew being in a position of significance, for the subsequent fact that scouting has been dire and for the fact he’s overseen 3 windows of abysmal recruitment.

Mitchell just appears to have lost vs Howe because we scraped into the CL and won a (arguably second rate) pot. I’m saying if things don’t change quickly we will simply repeat the mistakes of two seasons ago when an ill equipped squad screwed up matches in the CL and finished outside of European places in the league.

Well, to be fair all at the club, financial regs have clearly had a huge impact - and that will affect all of the recruitment.

Very hard to judge either Ashworth or Mitchell for a period that was largely hamstrung by financial restrictions. But also - again - I don't see why that is Howe's fault when there have been DoFs in place, who should take that responsibility.

BUT, to your point of avoiding past mistakes, what really would be crazy is if we were to blow a load of budget this summer and then spend the following 3 or 4 transfer windows doing nothing until the books are balanced again. That really would be stupid. So anyone expecting us to smash it in this one window is being short sighted.

And this is why this forum is so good; a brilliant, eloquent counter argument. Neither is definitively right, but both sides explored. Love it.

If PSR didn't exist we would be offering big wages and attracting the wrong type of player.

If Mbuemo has chosen Man Utd then it says a lot about him. Chosen money over the chance to be part of an exciting project. Wrong attitude for our squad.

We'll have someone lined up who is completely under the radar, who has the right attitude and who will not be asking for stupid money.

There's plenty of time in the window and I think it's time to use Nickson and bring a few finds. I'm not fussed really because whoever they bring in will be good players. Even if it's not finds and it's lewin I can see the reason behind it and unlike the majority I think he's a decent player.

Nickson has probably found someone from the French second division who will turn out to be world class and cost about £5 million.
