The sight of Mark Webber drifting around a roundabout or Sebastian Vettel doing a burnout on one is not common. Neither is a guy doing a wheelie on a bike round one. But these were all part of the fantastic Red Bull demonstration in Milton Keynes today. First to tackle Midsummer Boulevard was Webber, before the stunt ace Chris Pfeiffer wowed the crowd with a selection of unbelievable tricks on his bike. Then it was the turn of David Coulthard in a Red Bull Toyota Nascar machine, and then the youngest ever double world champion had his run too. After everyone went round for a second time, Red Bull boss Christian Horner and first Mark Webber, and then Sebastian Vettel, did a lap on the back of an Infiniti convertible to wave at the thousands and thousands that made up the crowd. It was an incredible event complete with the fantastic smell of petrol and burnt rubber. And all this took place just a couple of feet in front of me. Something I shall never forget. For some of my pics from the event see: http://allsortsofmotorsports.wordpress.com/2011/12/10/vettel-driving-around-a-roundabout/
Plenty of roundabouts for them to choose from in Milton Keynes, it's just a sea of them connected by half kilometer strips of tarmac. Horrible place to drive round.
My favourite road ever was the N340 from Benalmadena to Fuengirola, when I returned there a few years later I came bombing over a brow of a hill to be faced with a giant Roundabout. I was much saddened to find they'd wasted millions of Eurotax money building them all the way down.
My friend went to it and said it was an amazing experience. He also got to speak to Seb and Horner for a minute or 2. This sort of thing needs to happen across the UK more often to get more British fans bitten by the racing bug.
