"Charlton Athletic demanding major compensation package as Nathan Jones linked with Cardiff City move"
"Jones, 52, is now believed to be Cardiff’s No. 1 target to replace Omer Riza, but striking the deal is no simple task. Charlton are digging their heels in and are demanding a hefty compensation package should Jones depart this summer. Ultimately, the final decision will come down to finances, with Jones not angling for a move and seeing if a deal can be thrashed out between the two clubs first."
Hence the suggestion in that piece from Abbo I posted yesterday that it is ‘complicated’ but he also suggested it was ‘a long shot’ which infers possibly the clubs are way apart in negotiations.
A bigger problem might be that if City don't get him, whoever does get the job will know they were second choice.
This is as intriguing as the Echo’s speculation as to Jimmy Andrew’s replacement - “Who is City’s Mr X?”
I'll just remind you Nin, that I was the first to break this story Friday lunchtime. As posted then, I was actually told the day before on Thursday - long before your "Abbo" quote........... My biggest regret is that I didn't take the advice at the time to back Jones @ 33/1 as he was then.........
Money going on Evatt again as he shortens to 5/1 whilst Jones closes in slightly on Ramsey............. please log in to view this image
You can get 33/1 on him if you fancy it - same odds as Nathan Jones was on Friday......... Heads up..........being told Evatt is City's prefered choice should they not land Jones and are concerned that the Charlton compensation delay could mean missing out to Plymouth who want Evatt to replace Muslic. Must say this is more entertaining than our football last season.........
Text taken from a blog today by an American Charlton fan - the first para about decision making speaks volumes................... "Jones has a direct relationship with the owners and has the final footballing decision making power within the management and owner group, and has found himself in a job where he has and can continue to rebuid his reputation. Now at a level where he feels he should manage. A football club that has just won a major trophy backed by 40,000 fans with an exciting and steady footing, not seen at The Valley in over decade, to go forward compared to a club on a downward spiral with an owner perhaps worst that Roland Duchatelet. Money talks and moreover Jones is a complex character, but we’ve got hope that just a week after one of the club’s greatest days, that this storyline fades away."
The first paragraph is indeed telling. It's a level of control that he'd never get with Tan. Though, I assume that given we're negotiating with Charlton over compensation, Jones has indicated his interest in joining us, and by implication the control he will have at the club.
