It’s a good signing, no doubt. I’m not sure it’s real though as Romano said it had all been agreed February so if it was going to happen surely it would have been done, or strongly rumoured.
I don't expect anything to happen quickly with our recruitment being pretty simple in comparison to other clubs. There's imo a reason why Mitchell didn't see it being great and there's probably a strong degree of truth in it, but they'll get some signings for sure and they'll be well known and expensive. I'm hoping they can be a little bit more creative and actually find one or two players via good scouting because we're going to hit PSR issues again real quick with the current strategy. If they give Howe £200 million people will say he's not been backed when we can't spend more in 2 years time.... The truth is he'd already have had it.... Same thing as last time basically... He had his money at the end of the day... It's being front loaded.
The minute I see a link to a fancy name I'm 90% sure Newcastle won't sign them. I'm not even saying the strategy is wrong, but I'd rather have more Brunos, Isaks and Tonalis soon. What does everyone think? Are we going to get 4 or 5 tunnocks caramels or 4 or 5 starbars? I think Tunnocks.
I think we are mostly **** at this transfer market malarkey tbh We sign some players which are no brainers and then a ton of weird head scratchers which makes you go "wtf?" Or we just don't do anything at all
I just hate this time of year. No matches to watch and just constant newspaper and fan speculation about transfers that don't materliase. I just want to wind forward to August, find out who we have or haven't signed and sold and get on with it again. This waiting around for genuine summer transfer news is just painful.
The best part is when they sign DCL and Harvey Elliott and Quansah .. It'll be moaned about, but we'll do OK.
I just think we're hesitant but thorough to be honest. We seem to take longer than most clubs to actually sign a player but we don't then seem to miss much. How many players in the last 40 months have we paid over the odds for or have ended up being a waste of money? Targett yes, though injuries have been a large part of that one (and he didn't exactly break the bank). I'm sturggling to think of another player who hasn't worked out and we'd lose money on (I know Barnes splits opinion on here but we'd get our money back on him even if he did go). I'd argue that **** would be buying players who were worse than we were expecting and paying over the odds. Let's be honest, Man Utd and Chelsea will have bought 5 players by the time we get our first but their scattergun approach is more miss than hit. We can't afford that, I'd prefer we bought 2-3 genuine improvements than 5 players, of whom 2-3 are improvements.
Even though that was just us helping them out with PSR so they'd pay £35m for Anderson, I find it absolutely incredible that we couldn't have paid £20m and actually signed someone useful from them. Utterly baffling and again makes me wonder what changed from those first couple of windows to effectively the signing of Harvey Barnes, which - regardless of thoughts on the player - was a stupid and unnecessary transfer, and from that moment on we've been absolutely awful at any recruitment. Andy Howe was promoted to assistant of first team scouting in February 2024. In that time, we made 17 bids for Guehi and put in an enquiry on Huijsen and Delap, and done absolutely **** all else. Someone really needs to help me understand what the **** his job even is, because the names we get linked with are utterly obvious and for the most part very expensive. An AI scout could do that, why employ him just because he's the managers nephew? I'd just love to know what happened that's made us so terrible in the transfer market. If Luke Edwards is hearing we're going for 4 players, not only is it two shy of what we actually need, but knowing our track record we'll only sign half of that.
That was a 'needs must' as part of the Anderson deal so we could both avoid PSR issues. Not ideal, but necessary.
This post would still have happened if we’d won pl title, fa cup, league cup, champions league and Barnes won ballon d’or go out and get your leg over man
