I don't know if my tags work or not, I use them, but no idea if they actually work or whether it's just because they get a notification of me commenting, rather than it being a tag notification.
One way to test it I suppose... @Diego was tbat a general notification ^ or a tag notification Diego?
I see they have charged the ****ing moron who crashed into the Liverpool fans at the parade. Hope he gets at least 10 years, and am glad no one died. I will also say, once he is released and finishes his parole, he should move to another country, one that doesnt have extradition to the UK, because whatever he serves, Liverpool fans will deem it not enough, and harass, complain and threaten the government until he is charged again and given another sentence, not sure what would placate them, probably castration, the death of the next three generations of his family before finally being hung, drawn and quartered and his balls kept on display in a glass case on Anfield Road. Plus a gift from Westminster of £100m to be pumped into Liverpools welfare system. ya know....for justice likkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkcchhhhhe
I think he will get double figures. Multiple counts of GBH with intent plus high profile nature of it will see to that imo.
The problem is the law itself ... and in this case whether it is one or multiple offences - if his defence were to successfully argue that this is 'one incident' then the maximum custodial sentence the court can give is 2 years. The prosecution is therefore likely to be pushing for several consecutive 'incidents' at least. If he'd actually killed someone the maximum sentence is life - and he was very lucky that he didn't.
His brief will push for mitigating circumstances. His car was being attacked, PTSD kicked in, he’s got no previous. If they’d went with attempted murder charges he’d be looking at double figures. Don’t see it for this.
Given the publicity surrounding it, I would be surprised if he got less than 5, purely because the judge will be too scared. But even if he gets 5, with no previous, he will serve less than 2, given how quickly first time offenders make parole nowadays.
He's been charged with multiple counts, I'm assuming he's found guilty of all. Where are you getting a 2 year maximum from? That sounds like a minimum for GBH with intent. I know someone who got just under 4 years and they were a minor when offence was committed.
There will be a maximum sentencing guide that the judge is bound to, and then there will be the defence council's mitigating circumstances. As Saf mentioned, they will probably say he found himself trapped in a crowd of angry people, was scared and panicked. The way he aimed that car deliberately at the crowd though, I would imagine the judge will give him the maximum sentence that he can.
I think because of the high profile nature it'll be on the upper end of the scale, might depend whether the judge makes each sentence as consecutive or concurrent too. Of course his plea will have an impact too.
I mean the maximum in terms of the charges, GBH, wounding with intent, dangerous driving, using car as a weapon I'm not sure what the maximum sentence is for those charges.
