Loved them to bits back in the day. Seen them at the arena and went down to the Familiar to Millions tour at old Wembley. Liam was unreal as a front man happy mondays and doves supporting. The swagger, the voice, the banter with the crowd. All superb. I really hope they smash it but a lot comes down to his vocals imo.
My son bought tickets for their gig at Glasgow arena but his wife backed out two days before so I stepped in and went. I was so bored, after half an hour, I'd have walked out but didn't want to upset him. It was all very professional, big lights big guitars big noise, but without any soul or joy. As you say, much of the material is repetition and the same predictable chords shuffled around a bit.
They are living off the nostalgia, which I kind of get considering the state of the world. I was in Redhouse Comp when they hit the big time so brings back great memories. They were a breath of fresh air at the time. Although I preferred Blur, Ocean Colour Scene and Pulp
Blur are very clever and have a good range of styles. Pulp have created songs that will last for decades and attract new fans because they don't sound dated. Oasis will become a relic because they have one style that's now looking dated ... ... I can't see them attracting a new audience tbh.
Saw them at Knebworth back in the day, went more because the Charlatans were supporting and I loved them. Was a great gig, but that was a long time ago
Let me know when either of those bands have a tour the size of oasis. They never will and never have. They never sell as many tickets or are as popular. Oasis just got the nation at the time and have produced many great albums. They have lasted through the decades. The fact they can still command a tour like this where tickets are literally touted to the max and sold out in hours, shows it all. This will be history. I can not wait me.
Oasis have more number 1st than all those bands. They have sold more tickets than them all. They have more streaming plays on Spotify now than them all showing the public still think their songs are indeed relevant. Music is preference. But facts show oasis are bigger and better in all metrics.
For me personally it’s the teenager thing but I genuinely love their music. I quite like Liams and windup swagger as well, I suspect most of his antics are played up to wind people up. it’s good having a big range of music likes though isn’t it ? I can go from Metallica to 60’s (is it strange that I like most 60s music and I was born in 77) to Brian Wilson to Sepulchre to Alt J to Johnny Flynn to Florence and the Machine
Saw them in 2005 and thought they were decent. One of my mates wanted to see them this time as he'd never seen before. I somehow got a presale code so got a couple for this time around. Was done and dusted within 10 minutes on the day before genera lsale. Not sure whether I would have spent most of the day in an online queue to get some.
Definitely. One thing you can not say is that their music hasn't lasted decades. The fact they can do what they have done in this tour is insane in 2025. 30 years after hitting the scene. Still have 7.9 billion streams on Spotify. Still have the fastest selling album in UK history. 10 million fans from 128 countries tried to get tickets for this tour and it sold out in 1-2 hours. I get that people like different music but their size and musical status as a band are massive and history will remember and have remembered them.
Seen Oasis twice and been let down on both occasions. Hopefully it's 3rd time lucky this summer. I'm personally more of a Blur fan and going to try for Gorillaz tickets on Friday.
Define “better”? Graham Coxon and Steve Craddock are far better guitarists than Noel. Songwriting in both Blur and OCS is much more varied and much higher quality. There is literally no argument talent wise in that fact. Being popular doesn’t make someone “better”. Maybe that’s why Oasis are more popular. Found something that worked, didn’t have to work very hard. Oasis were more popular. First couple of albums were listenable imo, but as a musician I got bored of them, and, like I say, I couldn’t name you a song by them or their solo bands after that. My brother was massively into them but said the charlatans were far better live at knebworth.
The most popular doesn't always mean much tbh, I read that Lewis Capaldi was the most streamed UK artist and he's awful imo. Robbie Williams is the solo equivalent of Oasis, imo, who's 80% hype, attitude and myth ... music for people who follow the herd. I could just about understand the Oasis thing half a century ago, it was that time. Now it looks like a testimonial when ex-players squeeze into shorts and pretend they're half their age ... ... we all smile and cheer but we know it's really a bit sad and takes a bit of shine off our heroes.
Music is all opinion. No ones fault if their ears don't work. Oasis may have been all about timing. The 90s was far and away my best decade. I'd argue though that if they started up now that debut album would still smash other bands out of the water.
Agree about Oasis first album. It was perfectly timed and is by far their best work. As a musician, my dislike is simply how “samey” their stuff is. I reckon Noel is a far better guitarist than he ever shows, but stuck with what works instead of trying something different. Not sure it’d work now! Have you heard the ****e kids listen to. Makes oasis songwriting seem like Beethoven and Mozart rolled into one!!
Aye that's what I am saying. It's preference but the popularity show that they are still enjoyed and history will look back on the size of the band and impact.
I doubt it tbh, the hype at the time was enormous and they tapped into that 'lad' culture that was popular then. The Spice Girls had the same 'lad' culture but for women and look how dated that appears now. I don't either of them made songs that made any sense, just words chucked together.
Totally agree, I'm a child of the sixties,when the derivative music of the modern day was properly being written. However,Oasis won't be the first band who've latched onto a sound and milked it.
Whilst I’m not a fan of his music, Bruno Mars is an extremely talented musician! Capable of playing just about any instrument and has a tremendous vocal range.
