That would be another hopeful punt - thought the "brains team" recognized the importance of getting an experienced manager / head coach in this time after the farce of the last 12 months or so
He's not his publicist but you reckon Acun would say "Yeah sure I'll tell you privileged information even though the last time I did you put it in print and jeopardised the deal before it was signed off"
I am certain it is now between Phil Parky, Phil Bronze, Fat Jan, or Pope John Paul the Second (aka Mike Phelan)....................................................................................................................................................are they up on the odds list yet? It has been two minutes since I wrote this.
I, we, you, don't know and can only assume what is going on. But I would have thought, as a journalist, Cooper would get the news out somehow, if he knew something? Perhaps I am totally off the mark and Acun has him in his pocket? I honestly don't believe they have anyone lined up yet. They may well have put an offer to someone and are waiting for a decision, then if that fails I assume they would then move to the number two choice ( which obviously for all and sundry then becomes and always has been the number one choice) The only hint we have had is the bit about the clubs financial position and we are a bit limited to what we can offer, so on that alone I cannot see us buying someone's contract out and offer compensation. I'm expecting to hear something by the end of next week.
With respect though, if you have a direct personal line to the owner of the football club you cover, you are not going to jeopardise that by publishing information he has told you in confidence. Not least it would be a pretty shabby thing to do as I have no doubt he has only been told in order to do exactly what he's doing - provide clarity and deny rumours that emerge from various places from various people. If Acun said "We are negotiating on a player and it is very close but if it gets out into the media then other clubs may sign him before us" do you really think Baz would report on it? Same with a manager.
‘Walter was our first choice’ was a bare-faced lie by Acun last summer, by the way. Cooper was first choice.
If that was the case and potential player signing or a managerial appointment was dependent on the the news being kept under wraps until the deal was done then why would Acun even bother telling Cooper, or anyone in the media beforehand? What would be the point? I can understand Acun using the local media to deflect attention thus feeding out duff information.
He would tell him so that, as I said, Baz can keep people as informed as he can without revealing names. He can clarify that certain people haven't been interviewed etc.
Might the non announcement (if a decision has been made) be something to do with accounts year end...?
Tbf he wasn't wrong, Moore changed the game for the blunts yesterday ! Great pass to set up Sunderlands goal !!!!
Because on several occasions he’s used Baz as a gauge of fan reactions. There’s a reason stuff like the Emre news gets “leaked”
The article Acun said it'll be a week is when he also said we wouldn't know him, so forget all the known names that's being mentioned so far.
