Perhaps buying good players is a bit harder than most seem to think. Even Guardiola seems to have run into a set of average signings.
Most posters on here think we've failed to as far as I can see. Including me. But I don't think that's surprising because it is so hard. I didn't say anyone said it was easy though.
Guardiola made a series of rather naive mistakes, by his standards. You could see that some of his older players were running out of steam, de Bruyne and Walker in particular. Combine that with Rodri being key to the system and having no backup and selling Alvarez without replacing him. He's also gone with a bunch of centre-halves and virtually no fullbacks, for some reason. It's not average signings that's done the damage, in City's case. It's a lack of team balance, foresight and perhaps a bit of arrogance.
Not the first time he's done that, either He's had seasons where they haven't had a striker, seasons where they had twice as many FBs as CBs, and seasons where they've had twice as many CBs as FBs
