There are 4 games left to play in the Turkish league and Goztepe are currently 8th, 7 points off 5th place which gets into the Conference League. So probably no Europe. Of course, just because they have an option to buy him doesn't mean he has to agree to join them.
If 20m gets you a Downes then we need to be asking at least 30m for Fernandes in my opinion (and probably more!)
The figure I saw was that Palace are willing to pay £20m so if we want business done early then do we accept that or hold out for a larger figure which will likely happen much later in the window? The fact no media is mentioning release clauses atm is a good sign as well as if there is one I doubt it’s even £30m
Yeah it's supply and demand economics if there are plenty of clubs reportedly interested and consequently a bidding war we will surely get nearer the Lavia amount than £20m.
I'd assume if there was a release clause lower than that it'd have been fed to the media by now. Perhaps not though.
Just imagine how much of a hero with the fans he would be if somehow he decided to stay, instant legend status.
Yeah that’s what I’m hoping as well. Plus my assumption of a big part of why we missed out on Delap was our refusal to include one If Fernandes has one I’d be surprised if it was higher than £30m, I’d be surprised if it was even £30m tbh
Pretty much the only area SR have been consistently strong in is transfer fees received so I don't think for a minute we would even consider £20m for Fernandes.
Considering he's only 20, anything around 30-35m for Fernandes in today's market is a bit of a bargain for the buying club.
Long contract too. It is a very similar situation to Lavia although the interested clubs are likely to be a level down from Chelsea and Liverpool. So I think £40m/£45m is more likely than the £55m we got for Lavia.
No. He's worth more and we'll get more - any release clauses pending. I just put the chances of him staying at around 5%. If the club know he's leaving then let's not miss out on a player in a massively important postion for us by holding on to false hope. We've made some truly awful panic buys over the last few years. Probably the main reason we are in a mess.
I agree he’s worth more but if we want deals done early I don’t see any club bidding what we want early on, it makes little sense from their perspective. Similar to the Lavia scenario, Liverpool and Chelsea were bidding all summer but not enough. Eventually Chelsea did bid an agreeable amount, but that wasn’t until mid August or whatever it was. I’m just trying to say that getting all deals done early for any club would involve selling players you want to keep cheap/buying any player who their club wants to keep for an inflated price, which is why it’s very rare to see clubs getting all their business done by July
It’s a shame we didn’t give Fernandes a better platform for displaying his talent but every game he would do something that would catch the eye. The body swerve against City that gave LTL a semi is just one example of how he can change things and there are times in most games where he runs past players as if they aren’t there. He still has some development to do as there are times when he disappears a bit but I think part of that is because we have not been playing him in, what I think is his best position in our lineups. I think he is better playing left midfield yet for many games he has played on the right side to accommodate Sulemana, who was a resounding success in that position. I think he could become a really good 10. He will be very good for someone. I would like it to be us, but it’s probably not likely.
My understanding is that with pre agreed options is that contract etc is all agreed to start after the loan if the club decide to exercise the option, so he would’ve agreed everything before he joined on loan. So he can’t say no at this point. I might be wrong though
