Ashton, we don't need a new no2 keeper. We definitely need an upgrade. O'leary can revert back to being a no2.
Good comments on here about City overall. Sky Sports are reporting that Bristol City are keen to sign Nakhi Wells for next season as he offers goals. I have always liked Nakhi but if you are basing your next campaign on a 34 year old striker then I would suggest you haven't really got much ambition, as you constantly say, to improve our overall ability to compete, even if it is against the ultra pampered parachute mob. My suggestion would be to find another Vardy because they are still out there looking for a chance to show their goods, or even sign the man himself might be a better idea. My concern is we will end up with the same debacle as we did last summer when we brought in absolute rubbish to fill the gaps and how I wish that money was still available. The players we sign and what they offer will be a sign of whether all this nonsense about making us better is just a bad dream, or will the top brass actually make good moves this time out. Fingers crossed.
Read my post, imo we need to improve our squad depth as a priority if we had infinite funds I’d agree, but we don’t.
Good thread on OTIB regarding FFP. Anyone who thinks we are going to be buying players for fees we’ve spent in the past will be disappointed.
Sponsorships, major American airline sponsor them and is there an airport in Wrexham? That feat will never happen again. It’s like a dream for them promoting it, it’s probably made them more money than football earns in 20 years. Players queuing up to be signed to get their name in the limelight. Also in League one and two it’s a different type of FFP hence Brum spending all that money. 2 years in the championship they will be like us.
FFP does not apply to div 1/2 clubs, its salary cost management and Wrexham are spending closely to what they earn. Their revenue is higher than numerous Championship clubs. Their financial losses are in the low millions, and very very low in comparison to BCFC.
I would say he’s a good shot stopper, on the whole reasonable sweeper keeper, not so good at bossing his box or passing, which is why I said all round he’s decent. Bentley cost a fortune in fees, and wages and was no better than Max. He didn’t come off his line at all, flapped at crosses, was good at one on ones, and a decent shot stopper, but palmed most of his saves back into dangerous areas. He’s at our level, Robert’s for instance isn’t, Bell isn’t, we don’t play Cornick, there are others, and that’s before the fact our squad is too small. I’d much rather we spend money on those areas first and someone to challenge Max. If we’ve enough left over to replace Max rather than challenge then fine, but realistically we’re not going to have enough, hence my previous post where I stated the priority is too improve our squad depth and quality before replacing Max. It’s about priorities.
Roberts, Bell or Cornick are not 1st choice in their positions. O'leary is first choice. City desperately need a first choice keeper.
So you think we need a new keeper rather than a decent striker, or cover for Pring or a replacement for Robert’s, Bell, Cornick, Etc. we don’t have enough money. Whilst a new keeper would be nice, we have greater priorities imo
The majority of a Keepers game is played with the feet. O'leary's play with his feet is not of a high standard - The majority of his game. If you do not think the player commands his box, your appraisal of all around he is decent is uneven.
But they still need replacing, where’s the money coming from?, the reason we failed against Sheff U was our non first choice players weren’t good enough, we need a squad of quality and depth, it’s not the 1970’s anymore.
Then put an outfield player in goal if that’s the case. Joe Williams? , extreme I know but you get the point. We need to improve the quality and depth of the squad, that imo is the priority, of course it’s only my view, others may disagree.
We tried cheap punts for strikers last season, we’re now stuck with 2 with 3 years remaining on their contracts, you think we can afford to buy two quality strikers or risk buying more cheap punts? and a keeper?, not going to happen
