I have a feeling this is Acuns last throw of the dice, so wouldn't be surprised at a bit of a wildcard again.
Yet its how most clubs operate across several sports so why are we different? Sporting Directors, CEO's, Directors of Football do recruitment now. Clubs sign players based on how the club wants to play. The manager is just another part of that machine. The days have gone when Alex Ferguson would be running the show top to bottom and ringing players from his holiday. Many 'managers' are now called Head Coaches because that is all they are there to do, coach the team. Selles tried to sign a player from Reading as soon as he came in and it was all but done before someone above pulled it as stuff came to light about the player they didnt like. A manager will have his say and submit his list but agents deal with people higher up these days who will have their own lists. Ehab famously worked off data only and when an agent went to his house one night he had piles of paper all over the kitchen worktops and floor, grouped by stats. He was insistant he was only buying players from certain piles that married with what he/McCann wanted the football/ethos to be like. Some say the likes of Harry Redknapp started the change by being a dodgy get causing owners to appoint people they trust in positions to control the dealings. Acun obviously made a mistake the first time round with Tan and we ended up with all sorts of dodgepots but from all accounts the new guy is pretty good and agents trust him and like him.
Acun's really taking the piss if he's getting that fella in as manager. Don't see Cuba at the World Cup, so if he can't do that with the death penalty threat, how's he going to get City's forwards to score after putting them on the same salary as the cleaning staff.
You’d genuinely think we’d sacked the second coming of Guardiola or something based off the extreme bed wetting of some here. Ruben probably deserved another crack at it but I suspect a Pompey goal or Luton draw and the conversation wouldn’t be about planes getting shot out the sky etc.
I often wonder what people would have said about Tim had he thrown Kamara in front of the media the way Selles did. That is the best example of how supporters can twist anything to suit their own agenda. Selles appears to be a fairly competant football coach but his record in the higher divisions is hardly one that will get Premier League or Championship clubs fighting over him. I hope he finds another club that suits him and he has a great career but lets not pretend we have just sacked the best thing since sliced bread. He fell over the line because Luton cannot defend properly and Portsmouth couldnt get a second goal. That is the crux of it.
