He did a night at the City Hall where he was been interviewed by Perry Groves about his time at City and his career. Quite an enjoyable night.

Just got back from an evening with Steve Bruce at Hull City Hall and probably like everyone else who packed the place out tonight I came home thinking I wish he was still our manager. First spotted him walking up Whitefriargate with Peter Chapman taking in the delights of the old town. Chapman was the man who brought Bruce to Hull in the first place and a man who worked with him at City as Vice President until a falling out with Ehab. He told me he hasn't set foot in the stadium since but still follows the club.
The first half was mainly about Bruce's playing career, compared by an ex Arsenal player who's name I didn't quite catch, a cockney Perry Groves ?, loud, brash and foul mouthed, all that Steve Bruce wasn't.
Bruce along with Peter Beardsley were the only two young players not signed up from Wallsend Boys Club and both went to Gillingham for trials, Bruce was signed up, Beardsley wasn't because they said he was too small.
He later moved to Norwich in a £100k deal and scored two own goals on his debut. Then Alex Ferguson came calling and he went to Man U for £800k, he spoke very highly of Ferguson as a manager and learnt a lot from his man management which he said was top class. He also said the hardest player he came up against whilst a young player at Gillingham was Billy Whitehurst. Said Whitehurst terrified him, also a story about when Bruce was at Sheff Utd and Billy was running the pub across the road. He used to organise bare knuckle fights in the pub yard behind the pub on Sunday afternoons and invited him down. Bruce didn't turn up but Billy did next day at his office asking why, Bruce said he **** himself. Best players he played with? Paul McGrath who could drink 20 pints of Guinness in 30 mins, Brian Robson, and Gary Pallistar who signed for Man U from Boro. In the second half he said Cantana was the best.
Second half, supposed to a question and answer session.
His time at City was finally mentioned. Best player? Elmohamedy, Steve Quinn at £50k, Brady, Chester, Robertson one of his best signings, said he turned up at the training ground holding his mothers hand and Maguire who couldn't get into the team at the time.
Worst? Prostwich the only German ever to miss a penalty. £2.5m waste of money.
Ben Arfa was a lazy bastard who wouldn't move out of the centre circle.
Said we had a very good team, tight, no big heads, and a good scouting system which brought them all together. We even had Fergusons assistant at Man u scouting for us in Scotland. Biggest regret on who he didn't sign for City? Van Dyke when he was at Celtic. He was tipped off and asked Peter Chapman to see if we could raise the £12m asking price, he eventually signed for Southampton.
Was interviewed for the England job whilst at City, lost out to Big Sam.
Fell out with Ehab after he dismantled the scouting system, his days were numbered then, couldn't work with him and walked out.
Not many managers walk out of a PL club like he did. Also thought the reasons given for the name change was bullshit and sapped his energy.
FA Cup Final. Big regret was playing McGreggor who had missed six games through injury, said he regrets bringing him back and that he should have saved the first goal. Said he maybe wasn't fit enough. Also said Wegner told him that he'd have been sacked if Arsenal had of lost that game.
There was loads more in what was a fabulous night of football talk and tales from a true football legend. He spoke very well all night and was very humble and funny and I also thought he was a bit emotional at the end from the reception he got.
    Great night.
It was a sad, sad day when he was allowed to walk out of Hull City. Said he often reflects on it and wonders if it was his fault, if he could have done things any differently............

It didn't come up which is why I think the Q@A session wasn't really adhered too because surely that question would have come up?
He said the four years he spent at City were some of the best of his career and he throughly enjoyed his time here with a great set of lads. Said he was happy to be back in football after seriously considering quitting altogether when he was 60, now he's at 'lovely little club in Blackpool' They want what he wants. He did seem genuinely fond ( for want of a better word|) of his time with us and I believed him, and I did detect a tear in his eye at the end when he received a standing ovation .

Always came across as a very humble, working class lad from the North East.A lot like the Charlton brothers in my opinion.

Said when he was 34 Jack Charlton rang him after he'd heard that his mother was Irish, she was, and Charlton offered him a place in the Irish World Cup Squad, USA 1984? Bruce had one cap for England B at the time, given too him by Bobby Robson, v Malta a game which Graham Taylor took charge of for some reason. Taylor named the team and in front of all the other players said that Bruce was not his choice of captain because he makes too many mistakes and his not his type of player. Taylor then got the England job and Bruce never got near the squad again.
Back to Charlton, Bruce thought at 34 he had the chance of playing in a World Cup but had to pull out because if he declared himself as Irish it would have fell foul of the quota of foreign players in a squad and Man U had already reached that quota.

Perry Groves was slightly annoying to start with but got a bit better as the night went on.

You missed some bits about Ehab. Essentially Peter Chapman and Bruce ran the club and Assam let them get on with it, soon as Assam got ill, Ehab took over, and it got to the point Bruce couldn't talk to him, basically making Chapman redundant. Like you said Ehab took all the control off Bruce, and dismantled possibly one of the best scouting networks at the time, replaced by his mate. I guess most of this is common knowledge. He actually called Chapman his CEO, and Mike has only been back to the club twice.

Said the Moses Odobajo had the potential to be a better player than Robertson, but injuries knackered that. Said Dugarry was the most talened football he'd ever managed.

No, I said Peter Chapman worked with Steve Bruce as the Vice President of the club, which was his official title at the time.
It was because he was acting as the CEO why he and Ehab had the falling out.
    Clash of personalities ?
I didn't mention Dugarry because he didn't play for Hull City.
Forgot the mention of Odedbajo, so apogies for that.

If Steve Bruce thought it was all a load of rubbish maybe he should have said that at the time instead of siding with the Allam’s and belittling the fans. The man is an odious toad.

Just listened to him as a guest on the Stick to Football podcast. Came across well doesn't really believe in sticking to football philosophy if it's not winning games.

But like you say wouldn't come here. But then again he said he lives in Nottingham so maybe a better chance than those that want to stay south but still don't think he'd even consider it.

I was surprised how many where there. I'd say it was 95% full, which included the balcony and it wasn't cheap. £35 and £70/75 a ticket. I don't know how many the City Hall holds but I'd guess at 500 maybe more? The compare did say at the end that Bruce was surprised how well the tickets sales went and on the numbers who turned up, so thanked us all etc etc.
