I agree, but unfortunately mate, 6 new players aint enough. A lot of lads aren't proven/good enough, dont have the upside, or are extremely injury prone. Id say its quite obvious to say we'd want a keeper, two full backs, two centre backs, two midfielders, probably three wingers and two strikers.
I'm fine with buying direct from PL clubs, it's buying from the Championship that I have an issue with until we are established. 1 or 2 would be fine but trying to stay up in the PL with the majority of your summer signings being Championship players just doesn't work
I didn't want to jinx it whilst we were playing them but he reminded me a lot of Roberts all fart and no ****e. He constantly wanted to cut inside to the point that even when shown the whole line, he was standing facing across the pitch and trying to beat Cirkin just to get come inside. I wouldn't want him for the fee he would cost and certainly not in the Prem.
Esse already been snapped up by Palace aint he? I dont disagree but a lot of those would cost a lot of money which makes me wonder if wed operate in the championship
Just look at this. £150m spent on players either from Championship clubs, players who were on loan in the Championship the season before, or players from relegated PL clubs. Just for comparison, Greaves (who I do rate) cost more than Huijsen, Lacroix, Jake O'Brien, Milenkovic, Agbadou who play the same position and were signed in the same season by other PL clubs. Obviously not accounting for wages here but the initial outlay for players in the Championship is way too big for what they actually bring.
I also think signing too many wouldn't be the right choice either. We definitely need plenty of added quality if we do go up but I'd hate to do what Ipswich did this season and just buy loads of very good championship players. We aren't going to get a PL quality squad in 1 season so we've got to be smart with who we sign. For me that's aiming for 6 quality players then hoping some of the younger players really kick on with the step up. The good thing going the youth route is some of our boys will make the step up and are likely to become PL regulars for years to come.
Definitely agree with this. Our squad is so young and many of them have an elite growth mindset that I'd want them to be given the opportunity. I could see players like Hume, Rigg and Mayenda struggling at first but completely holding their own after 20 games.
I wouldn't be against that volume but as long as we go for at least 6 PL calibre players rather than 10 plus championship standard players
As others have said, I'd rather make 4-5 signings like Enzo than 10 players who are a gamble. Plus we have a lot of young talents in the squad, the idea is still likely to be that we continue their development, incoming players should aid that with competition and quality rather to swamping them with new players.
I know we have Le Fee but if we went up I’d love us to get Ensiso. Can’t see him starting for Brighton anytime soon and he’s proven at Ipswich he’s more than good enough for the PL already.
Started the season with Brighton then think he moved to Ipswich and picked up an injury straight away
I think a lot of people are forgetting about the free agent market and the loan market. I think we might have some heavy reliance on the latter to bring in some hopefully top players, if we get promoted.
I really dislike what Forest did in their first season, spending so much on so many players but the way they play is the blueprint we should be aiming for if we go up imo. Sure, there are more exciting teams in the league but a team that can absorb pressure and defend well as a first principle is a great start and then have the ability to counter with some quick players. That suits a team who will naturally spend a lot of time defending against stronger teams and it suits RLB.
