Heavy rains and high winds , rivers bursting banks , fields flooding locally and we have 2 more trees down , as a positive cellar is still dry and I`m off work now trill Jan 2nd Gives me ample time to repair storm damage another one coming tomorrow as well.

Indeed , I did think of a week in spain or egypt , but I would spend all week concerned about whether we were flooded , whether a tree ad gone through the garage etc etc!! but heat and blue sky and cheap grog is very tempting!
I've just been catching up with the Nest and the thing that comes through very clearly is the sense of community that hs been created amongst people who have never met, or at least had not met before. The genuine concern for SLB at the moment, and the concern for others at their times of difficulty is refreshing. The computer is the new village pump. This is uppermost in my mind today as the online Facebook group that Mrs NZ is involved with meet up this weekend. Her group is Oct 2010 NZ babies and they won a competition run be Anchor (as in butter) for family re-unions. They put themselves forward as a 'modern' family where the various members have supported each other through difficult pregnancies, sick children, partnership break-ups, earthquakes and floods. The meet-up is now going to be covered by NZ Women's Weekly. I'm beginning to sound like a sociologist, which I'm not! I just get a positive feeling about the way good communities are created. It is refreshing to have genial banter with Leeds fans at the moment, despite their reputation. Sorry to go on. Feel free to ignore this!
A sort of coincidence Charlie - 31 years ago i was working in Borehamwood & can remember the moment well. Have to say though, that by the end of the day I was sick of hearing is songs on the radio.
Morning NZ You made me happy with that post mate! ,we had a similar community on the bbc 606 ! When they killed it ,we were very concerned we would lose that sense of community and that things would become splintered and folk would go their different ways! We managed to move here and most eventually came across , we have still lost a few (which is sad ) but have gained many more . ref Leeds , Its nice to have some friendly banter and the Match threads are starting to get to where we were on the old 606 without that silly 3 minute rule!(many thanks to Ak on that one).

Thats almost certain! We always used to be a secondary sector nation and we had great success with it. There simply is not enough money in the tertiary sector to sustain us, but there are plenty of people who want to work and im sure they would jump at the chance to do some semi-skilled work.
Then lets get the hell out of the EU I fail to see why british tax payers should bail out spaniards greeks Italians ,Irish etc
I agree with the free market principle but i dont agree with the free movement of persons and the rest of us holding up the other economies.
Especially when they're getting to see our Olympic torch and we're not Have to say that I fail to understand why Britain joined the EU in the first place - not that it was a closely followed issue in Australia at the time . I thought that, at the very least, there would be two-way benefits, but it all appears a bit one-way at the moment - out of our pockets and into theirs. However, if we did pull out, I'd miss my best students - the Polish kids.

Oh goodness Dan! Will we be seeing you in a coat tomorrow too?! It was a strange day. I used to sleep with my radio on and i dreamed that John Lennon was dead...when i woke up and heard it on the news i was shocked. I went to school where the upper sixth, my year, were decorating the hall for Christmas...but nobody was decorating. Loads of kids were in tears and the rest of us were just standing around in a bit of a daze. Very strange day indeed. Though i have to admit, once they started dragging out all the songs he'd written but never released, it all got a bit much! How lovely ...i'll bet she's looking forward to that almost as much as you are! Wow, keep me informed! Definitely crossed for you Sandy! See you later!
Charlie I did not see The Yardbirds The New Yardbirds or Led Zeppelin but I have been to a concert of Robert Plant and one of Pagelant. One of my friends had a ticket to see Led Zeppelin in London two years ago and another different friend actually went to Knebworth in 1979.
i'm up early too Ak...lots to do tomorrow, including buying all the booze and snacks for Master Hornette's 18th birthday party...a trip to Costco before the game should get me nicely riled and ready to face Leeds! lol
