Just read about this young local new talent from the New Forest in the Daily Echo and checked her out on spotify (she's not on YT yet) and i'm glad that I did. She says that she is inspired by Joni Mitchell and Kate Rusby and I can hear that, could be a big future for her... https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/25...eenager-eliza-hope-cowdery-releases-debut-ep/
She wrote, played and arranged it all too, if she's producing music of this sophistication and quality at 18, it's frightening what she might produce in the future.
Not my bag but was quite surprised by this. It reminds me alot of a CD I bought about 6 years ago by singer and guitarist from Chile which was in the same style abd also featured strings. I forget her name but she received alot of praise from Pat Metheny at the time. I love the use of strings in a chamber setting like this but think the same issue applies to Eliza Hope in that the songs are really ambitious. This music strikes me as owing a bit more to jazz than folk. Thanks for posting. More of a fan of Elmo Hope, though !
If she was influenced by Joni Mitchell, as her style suggests, then she has probably inherited a bit of Joni’s Charles Mingus influence.
Joni Mitchell is widely respected as a song wroter in the jazz community. She assembled an excellent band for that album.
The Chilean singer / guitarist is called Camila Meza....one album and then disappeared from view despite favourable comments.
Chilco I am sorry but i cannot post a link from my mobile. I have been listening to the' Duas Vozes' by guitarist Egberto Gismonti and percussionist Nana Vasconcelos which i thunk will really appeal to you. The music is very varied yet totally compelling and often beautiful. It takes it's cues from the native music of Brazil where they both came from. You can still get copies on Amazon. You will love it.
My youngest daughter, who did a degree in Contemporary World Jazz, is a big fan of Egberto Gismonti. I have heard some of his stuff and I really like it.
So we had Eliza Hope last week and YT threw me up that other great talent from the New Forest, Birdy (it must be something in the water down there!). I missed this album, Young Heart when it came out in 2021 but i'm obssessed with this particular song which has one of the most heart wrenching and beautiful melodies i've heard...
I know I'm a few days for late national Star Wars day and these may have been posted before but what the hell
Can't believe this but it's been 50 years since this film was made and i've never seen it until now. It's surprisingly good too and shows the gritty and seedy side of the music business back then and the Slade boys' acting is not too bad at all.. Hmm, it seems like I watched it just in time.
