OK, we're going to miss out on CL football this season but in my honest humble opinion it is the best thing that could have happened to us. It's too easy to write off losing to Man City. Too easy to right off losing at home to Palace. The CL failure must surely set ear-splitting alarms off in SAF's and the owners' minds. We've been kidding ourselves for a while that we still have a competitive team. The current generation of young players coming through aren't a patch on the Beckham, Giggs, Scholes, Neville era. Our signings are depressing. Whereas Man City have signed the little genius Silva and the powerhouse Yaya Toure, we have signed Chris Smalling from Fulham and Phil Jones from Blackburn. No disrespect to those clubs but what a joke.
We need a total rebuild of the club. Man U (fact) is the biggest club in the world with the most supporters by a country mile. Our first team and squad is letting that support down.
Surely now, SAF realises drastic action is needed. Not just the odd player but a complete overhaul.

How can you have the name "true-blue" and expect people to believe you're a Man Utd fan <doh>

Alan, what the heck in my post is WUM? I totally disagree. Hernandez is our new Ole Gunnar, a quality substitute but not a world class striker. I can remember being in the pub when Sky Sports announced we were signing Owen. I can remember the whole pub erupting in mock laughter that the mighty Man U were signing injury-prone Owen when we should be looking at £50m+ world class strikers. I flushed with embarrassed. All I'm saying is we've done stuff on the cheap and the results are now showing.

I think your wumming because you think United need a overhaul of the whole team which is ridiculous because we just need to improve in the cm and defensive positions.

Alan, I am a patriot, that's all. Cause my home team (Ipswich) are unlikely to flourish in the PL I can support those PL clubs. For different reasons I passionately support each of those clubs.
PS Does anyone actually disagree with my admittedly pessimistic appraisal of our club? I'm just worried, that's all.

Ivor, times have changed for better or worse. We have to invest to at least keep pace with our mates Man City.

I am sure SAF is well aware of what is needed at the club. Don't forget Utd were poor last season (by their own standards) and yet still won the league. We are nearly half way through this season and sit second in the table. It is not all doom and gloom.

Caesar, Man U are the biggest club in the world. Yet their team betrays that fact, simple as.

Just cos we are the biggest club in the world, does not mean we have a God given right to win everything and have all the best players. We went a long time without winning fk all. The team might not the strongest, but we are still in with a shout of winning 3 trophies.

Shwan, agree with most of what you said. I would keep Berbatov though, he gives the team something different. Hindsight is a great, but I think we badly missed him in the CL final, as someone who could hold the ball up when we finally got it back off Barca.
I do think the wingers could do with a target man type of forward, which we really haven't had since Mark Hughes. When Rooney drops deep, we do not seems to have numbers in the box when the ball does come in, especially when Hernandez is not playing. Granted its not helping that we have 3 strikers out injured.
It has been said in other threads, that we have not replaced Keane or Scholes adequately. Carrick is the nearest we have to Scholes with his passing ability, but sits too deep and isnt really mobile enough. I would like him to push further forward and take a swing every now and again when gets near the box.
It might be my imagination, but I think the style of football has changed over the last couple of seasons. We seem to play at a slower tempo and try and walk the ball into the net.

We should sell Berba to the Los Angeles Galaxy (as a Galaxy fan, and Berba fan, I'd love to see him partner Robbie Keane up top again). He isn't of much use to us anymore and should be moved on. In all fairness to Macheda, his loan at Sampordia went poorly because they sold Cassano, their only real offensive threat, and expecting him to fill that role, or any resemblance of that role was too much to ask. I think he needs to go on loan to a decent premier league club. He'll always be apart of Man Utd history with that goal against Villa, but he needs to step his **** up.

What our Forwards really need is for Welbeck to stay healthy and improve his finishing. He's quick, great with the ball, and as he showed against wolves, he has an excellent pass. He's often in the right positions when the balls come into the box, but he lacks the finishing touch. We're a bit spoiled with Hernandez as he finishes everything, or so it seems.

In other words, cos Ipswich aren't going to win anything, you have decided to support pretty much every PL team that might.

The words "glory" and "supporter" were invented for people like you...
