It's all part of the drive to 'increase the spectacle '. That seems to include allowing dreadful fouls in the early minutes of games, not issuing second yellow cards for bookable offences, allowing coaches to ignore the rules on where they stand, promoting huge flags, music to celebrate goals (before VAR takes 5 minutes to disallow them....often incorrectly), etc., etc. It's becoming more and more like wrestling or NFL. I'm too old for that ****...and almost hope that this falls flat on its arse...as long as the boys and girls scream their lungs out in supporting the team, thereafter. Just WIN!!!
Interesting that there was no explanation of what a "tifo" display is. I guess the days of explaining terms are gone, because either people are too stupid to realise that what they've written doesn't make sense to everyone, or they don't care, or they just assume we can Google it. Of course we can Google it, and I've done so - because I didn't know what it was. Doesn't make it right though. To me, when introducing something that might not be understood, or misunderstood, it should be explained in the first instance. This isn't me being an old fart, it's me suggesting a sensible way of doing things. NB, from Google: The term "tifo" originates from the Italian word "tifosi," meaning "fans".The practice of creating and displaying tifo displays has its roots in Italian football culture but has since spread worldwide
I couldn't agree more. It's the 'modern' way. I became involved 10 years ago in a field of work that was new to me. Sitting around a table discussing business with 7 or 8 people and I had to learn about 30 sets of initials. Crazy and a waste of time. and also gets in the way of understanding the point being made as a new set of letters pop up and you start trying to work out who or what the speaker is referring to, by which time they have moved on to another point and another set of initials.
I tend to find when the acronyms come out at work I'm about to enter the land of large amounts of BS. I'm surprised I still have a job the number of pointless meetings I've attended. Bless her, but apparently according to my good work buddy I don't mask my feelings very well.....
In the absence of the match thread yet, dropping this here. Our EL opponents last game ...a walkover 3-0. Decent first goal - they have a big striker who will no doubt ayse us problems. The 2nd is a penalty for an invisible handball. The third however is a really good team goal, back to front and a clinical finish. All on a synthetic surface with a very noisy fanbase! Basically, we're ****ed if we need a win there in the 2nd leg I reckon
From my experience: People who overuse acronyms = People without a good grasp of the subjects they are talking about....
Not the case in my examples. I was one of only 2 who came from a business background. The rest were academics. I think universities are responsible for a lot of this stuff.
I'm guessing they cropped off who posted the original tweet to save them the embarrassment... please log in to view this image
