Just to pass some time. Which team wins. Follow up with your own fantasy game for debate too.

I have gone with players I have seen in my time only.

    Team Messi.

    Buffon
    Lahm, Baresi, Koeman, Roberto Carlos,
    Pirlo, Xavi,
    Messi, Zidane, Platini
    Ronaldo (Brazillian vintage)

    Team Maradona.

    Peter Schmeichel,
    Cafu, Gentile, Van Dyk, Maldini,
    Mattheus, Socrates,
    Ronaldo (other one), Maradona, Zico
    Van Basten

I would fancy team Maradona, just. Maybe a touch more balanced in the defence.

Lahm as a defensive right back to let Messi stay forward. Platini going central to let Carlos overlap. The 3 behind R9 sliding balls through for him. Pirlo and Xavi dictating.

Tried hard to create two balanced teams that would cause problems for each other. I cant help but think the Maradona team is harder to score against. Imagine watching it though!

If I ever saw a 0-0 with Ronaldo and Van Basten as the two number 9s I would start watching bowls instead. I dont think I have seen two better strikers in my time. Just magnificent.

Man after my own heart. Maradona is my idea of the greatest player ever. Plus I have a match worn armband from Mattheus :1980_boogie_down:

    Wow that's a tough one.

Baresi not breaking sweat, Maldini so cultured, Gentile a rock. Cafu, Carlos and Lahm changed the way full backs played.

Anyone would think I was a defender.

Then Van Basten and the proper Ronadlo, frightening

Any team who's fans don't stream out on 80 odd minutes. Embarrassing everyone

The beauty of football, you pick Maradona, I could watch Baresi and Maldini every day of the week.

I seem to recall Maldini saying if he had to make a tackle he had made a mistake.

Yet I love watching our players like Makin, Butler, Baath and these days Hume who loved / love a tackle.

It's a proper skill to tackle correctly

You've more than made your point now, mate. Totally unnecessary post on this thread.

I'd go for Team Messi purely because I think that fitness, athleticism and sports science is lightyears ahead of where it was and they have more recent players who on average are going to be stronger, faster and have greater endurance.

Now if all players had access to the same sports science, nutrition etc, then its a different question.

Agree mate... Apologies, I was looking for a quicker response from the OP..

... he who often talks of great times following the lads, great experiences that some of us cannot enjoy. But, who ultimately let's it all down by saying he can do what he wants, and leave early at home games...

I'd prefer not to hear any of his Facebook bragging, and more importantly, if he doesn’t bother going to home games if he has to leave early...

    Sunderland till I die.

Mate, shut the **** up. The only one embarrassing themselves here is you. Aren't you one of the ones who complain about threads getting derailed yet you continue to do this? If people want to leave early that is up to them, it's not my cup of tea but i've definitely left early while we've been getting battered.

Funny how the mods will say **** all about you continuing to do this.

I’d never leave early but people can do what they want.

Just so I know for the future tho, is it okay to go for a pee during the match? What about head down for a beer just before half time? Or is it specifically the last few minutes that are bad to miss?
