I see OLM has closed the Mayor thread…but one final question.. As we now have an elected mayor…do we still have a Lord Mayor to do the ceremonial tasks like opening fetes and things. No political slant just an interest.
Yes There will be no change. We will still have a Cllr who will be appointed Lord Mayor and Admiral of the Humber
The Lord Mayor doesn’t really have any powers. It’s a purely ceremonial role. Luke Campbell will be responsible for transport, skills development and housing along with any other devolved powers (I’m not sure what they are or might be in the future) He’ll also be responsible for the Strategic direction for economic growth in the area. Interestingly the decisions are actually made by an Executive Board which is made up of Campbell and 4 others, 2 from each Council. I think that will be two of his challengers for the Mayor role and 2 others. I’d like to be a fly on that wall! I think that’s right although it could be one from each Council. I may have read it wrong. I also wonder, regardless of whether it’s 2 or 4, whether that means the actual power will still rest with the Councils because Campbell will only have one vote and each Council will have at least one vote each. https://www.hullandeastyorkshire.gov.uk/executive-board
