And like Brady said, yes, people forget how bad we were. At the time Selles took over, some people were saying there was no chance he'd pull us clear because the players were so spineless and useless that the manager didn't matter. This was a key defence of Walter and was a pretty popular prediction on here in December.

I am with you. He’s certainly more balanced than the mad German. Give him Belloumi and Millar and a striker jobs a goodun.

    yea as been said before
with the current squad we have had

the fact that we would have stayed up with him over a full season is remarkable

he's had almost zero attacking players at his disposal, barry had about 4 games
    millar and belloumi were injured

he's had pedro, kamara, joseph and gelhardt

I'd almost prefer a different owner to manager.

Yeah, what a failure. More realistic would be to expect 16th, where Portsmouth finished. In order for Selles to achieve that, he would have needed form which over a whole season would have seen us finish just outside the playoffs (ppg of 1.44 = 66 points over a season). So we should have expected Selles to take us from guaranteed relegation form to almost playoffs form, and he didn't. What a failure.

If we're as broke as we apparently are, surely we aren't sacking anyone

I'm sure a fair few would, but then a new owner would almost certainly want their own man

Play to your strengths, which he did by prioritising the defence. It was essentially a reserve line up across the midfield and up front and he got the job done. He should absolutely start next season in charge.

We have to get away from this mindset of always blaming the manager when we're struggling to score goals. We've not been a goalscoring side for years, and we keep replacing managers and not solving it. How many consecutive sackings do you have to make before you start to ask whether the problem is elsewhere?

Hopefully Acun is as easily convinced on this as he has been in the past on other decisions. We seemed to get our way regarding Liam Cooper last summer for example. Make a fuss and make sure he knows he'd be stupid to consider it. He'll probably listen.

i think teams like coventry, sunderland and bristol city are where we need to aspire to be

some may say that's negative thinking, is it?

i think those are 3 clubs who over the last few years have built slowly with a core team, some changes here and there

but i thought we are broke and its all gone to ****, acuns gone etc etc

martin hodge and dublin seem a step in the right direction and already now. before june

An owner appointing new football leadership staff and making another change in coach that will inevitable have a serious financial cost to it doesn’t seem like a man on his way out.

True and I can accept that as long as decisions are not made with hearts rather than heads, in an attempt to loved.
It's football, not a reality show.

He's also done it with a very poor front line that are either ageing or have limited Championship experience (Gelhardt aside).

We've caught and passed 3 teams- which was his base job when he came in. Yes, Luton, Plymouth and Derby have been excellent in recent weeks - but the reason that we haven't been relegated is because we managed to get a head start on their play off form AND managed to drag Cardiff, Preston and Stoke in to trouble.

If Selles points per game had included form where we went on an end of season surge, instead of picking up consistent points over the course of his reign - there is absolutely no way anyone would be calling for him to be sacked. He's done the job - safety was far more important than entertainment.

If we really are in a financial mess - the manager who has steadied on the field poor performance at two clubs in difficulty (us and Reading) would be prime candidate for the job.

Even if next season Selles stayed and 'only' led us to a comfortable mid table finish that would be a huge improvement on where we've been for a number of years. He took over an team and squad in free fall with no confidence, since then 11/12 in the form table, that's fair play for me.
