Translation: In those 20 years we've won the Champions League and fu*k all else worth shouting about. Fair point though mate, we ain't won sh*t either!
Mark Lawrenson Liverpool v QPR I'm normally one of Liverpool's most severe critics but I thought they were unlucky in losing at Fulham on Monday. The Jay Spearing tackle [for which he was sent off] would not even have got a yellow five years ago - it was just a good, strong tackle for me - and if he doesn't get sent off, Liverpool don't lose in my opinion. But such is life, and Liverpool have to pick themselves up. This weekend QPR are in town and Neil Warnock's boys have enjoyed a lot more success on the road than at home this season. The thing with Liverpool, though, is that I think they're about to beat someone quite heavily at home. They have created loads of chances, they've endured draws against the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Swansea at home when perhaps they deserved more, and I just think someone's going to get rolled over. That could be this weekend. Prediction: 2-0 Here are all of Mark Lawrenson's 150 predictions for the 2011-12 Premier League season, together with how the League table would look like if those forecasts were all correct... http://www.myfootballfacts.com/Mark_Lawrensons_Predictions_2011-12.html
Taarabt 'injured' http://www.fulhamchronicle.co.uk/lo...-doubtful-for-liverpool-clash-82029-29925809/
It will be a close game imo, QPR will not sit back and without Lucas we seem to have a problem covering the back 4.
Ah yes, Liverpool; one of those iconic names that conjures up images of former glory like ancient Greece or Constantinople. Sadly all that remains is some toppling masonry and a dusty pile of bricks, huddled and untended in a shady corner, masquerading as title contenders. You would have to have a heart of stone to read about their recent history without shedding tears.................. of laughter. But I for one believe that they will have success again; it may be many years hence but I'm sure there's something waiting there in the coming decades. For now, they will have to settle for a draw on Saturday.
Liverpool v QPR By Steve Wilson BBC Match of the Day commentator Barclays Premier League Venue: Anfield Date: Saturday, 10 December Kick-off: 1500 GMT Coverage: Watch highlights on Match of the Day; listen on BBC Radio 5 live and BBC Radio Merseyside 1485 MW and DAB; text commentary on BBC Sport website and mobiles TEAM NEWS Liverpool will be without Jay Spearing, who begins a three-game ban following his sending off at Fulham. With Lucas Leiva out for the season and Steven Gerrard still missing, Jordan Henderson could switch to a central midfield role. QPR are still without Paddy Kenny and Brian Murphy, so third-choice keeper Radek Cerny will start in goal. Matt Connolly could be in line for a recall after playing 45 minutes for the reserves on Tuesday. MATCH PREVIEW I wrote a few weeks ago that Manchester United's ability not to drop points against the so-called lesser clubs, despite some instantly forgettable performances, has been the key to their seasons of success in the Premier League. Liverpool are the exact opposite. Their habitual dropping of points against the relative minnows of the Premier League has consistently undermined their usually excellent results against the big guns. So a home game against a newly-promoted side should set the Anfield alarm bells ringing. For the record, Liverpool have won only one of their last seven matches against newly-promoted sides - it's four wins from the last nine against Premier League new boys at Anfield. This season Sunderland, Norwich and Swansea have already drawn at Anfield. Last season, Liverpool failed to win at home against Blackpool, Wolves and Wigan. In the 2008/09 season when Liverpool finished second, four points behind Manchester United, they drew at home to Stoke, Fulham, West Ham and Hull. All clubs have 'if only's' at the end of the season - Liverpool may have more than most. Rangers have been really interesting this season. They lost 4-0 to Bolton and 6-0 to Fulham yet beat Chelsea and were unlucky to lose to Manchester City. Whilst some pundits predicted that last season's top man Adel Taarabt would not quite cut the mustard a division up, even Mrs. Helguson might be a little surprised that husband Heidar has scored six goals in his last seven games against top-flight defences. This one could be fascinating. MATCH FACTS Head-to-head This will be their first meeting since February 1996, which ended in a 2-1 win for Liverpool at Loftus Road. QPR have won just one of their 20 league visits to Anfield - a 3-1 victory in March 1991. The Londoners have just one victory from eight Premier League encounters with Liverpool - a 2-1 win October 1994. Liverpool Liverpool and Manchester City are the only teams unbeaten at home in the Premier League this season. The Reds have drawn their last four league games at Anfield. Liverpool's tally of 17 goals from their first 14 games is their third lowest in Premier League history (15 in 2006-7, 16 in 2010-11). They have hit the woodwork 12 times in the league this season - more than any other team. Stewart Downing has done so three times, more than any other player. Charlie Adam will be playing on his 26th birthday. A goal for Dirk Kuyt would be his 50th in the Premier League. QPR QPR have won more games away from home (3) than at Loftus Road (1) in the Premier League this season. They have already won on Merseyside this season - a 1-0 victory against Everton. Neil Warnock's side have kept just one clean sheet in their last nine league games - the 1-0 victory against Chelsea. Heidar Helguson could make his 250th start in English league football. iReader http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/16014989.stm
Goodison was a great day. I honestly would rather have Faurlin and Barton over Adam and Henderson but other than that I don't see where we can get at them. I hope I'm wrong but I can't see anything other than a 2-0 or 3-0 home win. Will be another cracking day though.
This place is full of 'em, all thinking they're still a huge successful Club . The 'Pool are an irritant to the real title contenders, nothing more. The also-ran's are gonna come up against a plucky little Club tomorrow. (Well said Twins )
We are a huge club, I don't see how you can dispute that. Unless you're a bit slow, or from Ireland, which is basically the same thing.
Ouch! Way to alienate a big part of your fan base there laddo! You're a big Club, not a Huge Club any more I'm afraid. And haven't been for a long long long long time.
What is the definition of a Huge Club in your books? Fanbase? Check Won CL in the last 10 years? Check. It can't be based on either of those criteria then? What is it?
Liverpool sell more merchandise than any other Adidas sponsored club. E.g Real Madrid, AC Milan and Chelsea.
I think what Swords is trying to get at is his belief that you're living in the past. Liverpool are obviously a big club for their history but their fans do probably have an inflated sense of self-importance.
