Who are the big 6? Liverpool City Arsenal United Chelsea Spurs(??!) One of United/Spurs won't win one, and I don't care about the pot that the other one does win. Chelsea's pot is even more of a comedy milk monitor badge. Only Liverpool and perhaps City will have something that I would be jealous of. And even then, an FA Cup would be a nice afternoon out but would not ultimately relieve the pressure on Arteta. We get pelters for not winning the big two... no-one truly gives pelters to clubs for not winning the minor cups. The minor cups are not the endgame for the biggest clubs which is what we aspire to be. They're complementary trophies to go alongside something bigger, or perhaps a trophy to win in an the odd off-year when you don't win something else big but you're otherwise winning the big two other years (like City this year). As a lone-standing trophy, the FA Cup would do little for our standing as a club beyond be a nice single day out. Managers of the biggest clubs don't get sacked for not winning domestic cups or non-CL european titles. They get sacked for not challenging for the big two. Players don't choose to go to the biggest clubs because of the chance of winning the minor cups, they go there to challenge for the big two. Spurs I can understand it representing something big (no trophy for years and they're not at the level of the league chasing/CL chasing clubs). United though. If they treat a Europa win as anything more than a single great day out, then that would further cement their status as a non-big six club really. I really don't think Chelsea will give two ****s about winning the conference for example.
There's lots of trophies we haven't won that I don't care about winning beyond them being a good day out.
Yes, it's more this. We've played at a high level for the last 3 seasons, yet I'm seeing clubs with inferior players and teams pick up trophies, whilst we're finishing runners-up in the league and not going far in the cup competitions. To not have won a single trophy in the last 5 years (assuming we don't get past PSG, but even if we do, we'd still need to beat Barca/Inter for the final and that wouldn't be a guarantee either) is really poor showing. Meanwhile, Man Utd could be winning 3 trophies in the last 3 seasons. I'm not saying I want us to swap positions with them, but it's more that I need us to start delivering silverware ASAP. We're 5 years into this project, the time to deliver is now.
I wouldn't even put Spurs in the top 10.They've been bloody awful this season.Whether it's the many injuries or moody players or incapabable players,I don't know.Manager? Possible.Owners not really knowing what they are buying.Probable.I can't figure out Richarlson. Is he a nut case with occasional moments of brilliance? That's not much good for a whole season.......and what our travelling fans have had to put up with.Blimey! They must be heading to the nearest pubs to wonder whats going on half the time! I also suspect the "top 6" may be over paying their players. That might be the attraction.Good luck to them!
To be fair the CWC that year was better than the Europa has ever been in terms of quality. As the 'European Cup' (UCL) that year only had the Champions from each league.
We haven't had many,if any, successes recently at Tottenham but it was a complete shock to see them fight their way to the CL Final a few seasons ago......then die a death after a 15 second penalty.A fifteen second penalty!.....and prior to that keep stumbling when they had the PL in their hands and handed it to Leicester.ALSO giving Arsenal 3rd place by letting relegated Newcastle walk all over them in the last game of that season 5-1.When we screw up,we screw up!
Chelsea beat Liverpool 3-1 and move 4 points behind us. Newcastle get a draw at Brighton and are also 4 points behind us. If Forest win tomorrow at Palace, we are in serious jeopardy of falling out of the top-5 spots. And you know what? It'd be exactly what we deserve for throwing away so many games from winning positions, when we should have mathematically had it wrapped up ages ago.
Villa are not worth including in the CL equation. So every other team has to overtake us for us to be worried about CL. And Chelsea have to play Newcastle and Forest. The only way Chelsea realistically overtake is if they win both. And if they win both then forest have no chance. and if forest beat Chelsea then Chelsea have no chance. top 5 is nailed on. Chill out.
This. Say Chelsea lost to Newcastle and beat Man United and Forest, that puts us on 69 points If Forest beat Leicester and West Ham then lose to Chelsea that puts them on 67 points If Newcastle beat Chelsea and you guys, then beat Everton, that puts them on 72 points Even if City win all their remaining games that puts them on 73 points. That would be the worst possible outcome for you, and even if you lost ALL your remaining games (including on the final day to Southampton,(which is highly unlikely), you'd still finish 5th on goal difference over Forest, unless there is a 21 goal swing in 3 matches......unlikely. Even if Forest beat Chelsea that means you get 5th ahead of Chelsea by 2 points, even IF you lose all your remaining games......so no chance of it happening really.
Not liking Man City's transfer business. Wirtz is probably the best KDB replacement they could get right now. They will have Rodri back next Season as well.
Also Hoijsen to Real Madrid pretty guarantees we tie down Saliba on a new deal. Need to keep this guy and build around him.
