Pretty sure the five games rule was abolished in 2017. It's squads nowadays; think we get 40 medals to hand out but, in reality, the club will buy the shortfall of medal regardless.
Nope the five games still stands. The club gets 40, but players who have played 5 or more are required to get one. The larger article https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/ce925lv0ky4o
They can give anyone they want a medal but anyone on 5 games must get one. It's to stop people giving the clea ing lady a medal over a player thst thry fall out with.
Fair enough, but as I said, it's all irrelevant because the club will just buy additional medals anyway
So has the difference between us and Arsenal chasing a title been mentality? Arsenal crumbled two years in a row despite having the upper hand on city in at least one of the past two seasons. We've locked on and kept going.
Yeah I think there was a couple of key moments when the games in hand etc. were about to be drawn level. I think we had City away, Arsenal had West Ham at home and the talk was ‘here we go the gap will close here’ - we beat city and they crumbled as usual
I don't think our performances have been linked to how well other teams are performing. We tend to play with blinkers on. Arsenal have crumbled in a season when both us and city have been playing well and city have crumbled in at least two seasons when we've been playing well.
Arsenal and Arteta haven’t been able to cope with focussing on more than 1 comp at a time either. In all the seasons they’ve gone out the cups early and that allowed them to focus on the league, hence getting close to city. this year they actually went further into the CL and seemed to compromise their league form which dropped off.
Yes, he has an abysmal record of actual achievements compared to moeny spent. Thry were in the qf last year of the cl and convinced they were going to win it too. You have to respect 89 points in the league but in the end you need to win something
89 is decent total. But when it’s your only focus and dropped out all other comps. Difference between us city and arsenal is lfc and city have managed to go big in the league while also competing in other comps up to the end. If arsenal sack off other comps to focus on league then need to go win it. Otherwise just serial runners up
Arsenal just don't have the squad to change games when a game needs changing. Often a set piece gets them out of games they struggle in but otherwise they're stuck. That's why they've drawn so many games, and it's why I expect them to eventually drop points even when they string a few wins together. While our forward options from the bench aren't exactly perfect, we have enough variety there to change games when needed.
Yeah, absolutely. They have been unbalanced which is a big critique of mine about that squad. He had too many 10s first (odengaard, Vieira, havertz, smith Rowe, and more) Now.hes got too many "cbs" and played don't tell me they are full backs lads cos they are not. Loads of cbs, no lb trusted. In fact all the defenders are chs with no real width so now there's skelly as a cm playing lb. A bad loan in sterling, no number 9 at all in the squad, a crock in jesus as reserve and a bang average trossard too. Now we are not all that but at least we sort of make some sense in terms of balance bar cover for macallister. Two genuine fullbacks on each side. Four genuine cbs. Two sort of 6s Probably 3 10s with jones and Elliott and szoboszlai. 2 lw. 2 rw 2 cf. Quality might be in question but there's two for each position for the managers formation and different options even if some have not worked well. You'd argue of course that sterling v chiesa is only an argument as saka got injured and salah did not. I do find arsenal fans deluded when they try make out havertz is a 9 and just fine.
Actually think Arteta and Arsenal have got so focussed on set pieces that almost forgot that can score goals from open play. They just don’t look as fluent in attack and Arteta seems to have a weird obsession once go 1-0 up that sit back and do the dark arts to see it out. It strikes me he’d rather win 1-0 than 3-0 As such they just invite teams on and end up dropping points
Yes, negativity really.came in when city beat them twice and thry blew up after losing a big lead. He can steam roller teams if he really wanted but they seem.to be happy to play 4 cbs at the back and **** like that
I'd say the biggest difference is belief; if you lack belief and experience, the nerves will kick in and cause those wobbles. Arsenal haven't won anything yet. Winning the CL in 2019 was out launchpad (you could argue losing the CL final in 2018 gave them the motivation but that was the Klopp effect)
It's unbelievable when you visit places around the world how many dedicated and knowledgeable LFC fans you come across. I've met a few in Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam.
I was in Turkey for the Super Cup vs Chelsea a few years back and thought I'd pop to a bar with the boy to watch it, expecting a quiet one. As we come up to the strip I see one bar with reds pouring out the door, it was jam packed. Singing their hearts out the whole game, flares going off when we won - fantastic night that was totally unexpected
