    <rose>RIP Mike Peters <rose>

Founder of The Alarm and a very nice bloke. We saw him as the final act on one of the smaller stages (The Opera) at Rebellion '24. He was on fine form despite his cancer being at a critical stage. It was emotional for all who were there.

Brian Montana, former guitarist of proto-death metal band Possessed, has been killed in a shoot-out.
He allegedly fired at his neighbours and the police in San Francisco, so they shot him.
He only featured on one early recording, the now ironically named Metal Massacre VI compilation.

Other songs featured include Executioner by Steel Assassin and Easy Way Out by Hades.
Mentioning Welcome to the Slaughterhouse by Dark Angel would probably be a little tasteless, though...

We've been offered some cheap tickets to see tonight's gig by The Pogues at Brixton Academy.

I promised myself that I wouldn't go. I've been to a few 'special guests' singers nights. They are extremely difficult to pull off. The changing of the guard breaks up the rhythm of the night's performance. I think that it's better to get in a single 'replacement'...like you can replace Shane McGowan (even Joe Strummer's fronting of the band was only a score draw).

But...you know...the pull is strong and I doubt that there will be another one.

So, much as expected, the very talented band was held back by the chopping and changing of singers. There were seven of them across the evening, ranging from the achingly sublime John Francis Flynn (his vocals on 'The Band Played Waltzing Matilda' were perfect) and Iona Zajach to the painfully bad, Nadine Shah. She was badly out of tune and off tempo throughout the half dozen songs she wrestled with (and lost...badly).

The changes happened after one song, from the off, which murdered the flow and pissed off Mrs B no end. Towards the end, a more paired down line-up rattled through some crowd favourites. If the rest of the evening had been more like this...

...but it was a chance to say "farewell and thank you."

Not too bad, thanks. I missed being up the front, but there's no chance of that right now. Between the arthritis and the wound in my back, I'm in no fit state, especially at a Pogues gig. It's still a very lively crowd, even with all of the issues on stage.

My energy levels are improving. The copper supplements and sunshine must be helping, even if the Naproxen withdrawal ain't.

Still, I got my appointment, with the UK's only specialist HH rheumatologist, through for early August. That's going to be a BIG help. I'm doing my sleep apnoea test tonight and I think that my recent BP readings are pointing to some more medication. It's shot up 30+/20+ over the last couple of months.

Today's work is to cook a nice piece of beef (don't tell the doctors) and rest up. I can cope with that.
