This is why the Canadian consortium rumour (where it was claimed he was going to write off the debt) sounded silly to me. He simply can't afford to write off the debt.
He can retain a stakeholding and liability. Think the main issue is passing on the debt. So he's probably resigned to losing control, some pride and as little wealth as possible. And I do think it's plausible that your classic silverback alpha-turk is more concerned about pride than money.
2.5 isn't big when we were supposed to be in for Cannon at 7m. And we massively overpaid for Joseph. Like so many others.
I actually think we're fine at the top end for L1 if we go down. Burstow, Kamara, Joseph all quality at that level, plus Belloumi and Millar may hang around (perhaps just Millar). I don't think we'd have buyers falling over themselves for any of those, except perhaps Kamara.
Yes, as I said a couple of days ago, the most likely outcome is Acun refinancing the debt directly into the club's name and selling the club for free or incredibly cheap with the new owner picking up the tab for the debt. There is zero chance of Acun just writing off the debt.
Who, Kamara? Then we'd hold onto him. If we needed to we'd sell Pandur, Alzate, Hughes and perhaps one of Palmer or Crooks; plus Omur, Mehlem, Racioppi, Simons, maybe Giles too if Wrexham or Birmingham fancy him, and we'd be ok to hold onto the rest.
No it's not. Shark was convinced it was because the remaining debt to the Allams equalled the purchase price of the club or something silly, ignoring that the accounts showed that that debt had been written off.
It keeps getting mentioned that we're losing £500k a week as if that in itself is something really stark, but it's just the reality of being a club that spends competitively in the Championship. That's not to say there isn't a problem. I have no idea whether there is or not, but just the headline figure of the club making a loss doesn't necessarily mean anything as bleak as some people are implying it does. Someone said it wouldn't be sustainable in League 1; how much do you think Birmingham are losing this season? It will be a huge amount but it's worked out nicely for them. So the headline loss figure isn't everything.
