BBC gossip suggesting we are looking at activiating Delaps release clause of £30m if we relegate them this weekend. If you can get him and Huijsen for £80m with their release clauses - Trafford for £20m and loan a RW with obligation to buy next summer we could have a deep squad next season!
I genuinely believe we will sign Delap. Hes young and would benefit from Howe and he would be able to give Isak less game time and develop. I also think we will sign Mbueno. But we need a CB also.
I keep reading that Mbeumo is available for under £60m, which seems low in today's market. Unless he has a release clause I'd be surprised if it wasn't a fair bit more. If it was £55m - £60m, then yes - we could get him, Delap at £30m, and a CB for around £30m (Thiaw?). It would probably leave funds tight for GK though, which may explain why we're rumoured to be looking abroad for there now. Rumours today that we're looking at Gregor Kobel from Borussia Dortmund as our new GK (though he'd likely be £25m+).
This is what Chelsea do. Sell dreams to dozens and dozens of youngsters, who are all told that they are the special one. They all believe they are special. Sold.on Chelsea's project. Then they get loaned out to clubs across Europe. Maybe 1 in every 10 actually make it. But Chelsea don't care, because that one makes it all worth it for them financially. Agents don't care because players are just a commodity to them, so if Chelsea come knocking of course they will cash in and encourage the young lad to go there. It all just stinks. Chelsea need to be hit HARD.
I take it you don’t work in marketing. I would have thought that every club would be trying to big up their club and the role the player would play to attract new talent. Once you have them under contract you can **** about with them (loan them to League 1 clubs or even Sunderland) as you want.
Chelsea - “you, my lad, are one of a kind, a generational talent we’ll build our team around for years to come. Listen, can you hear it? The blues fans shouting and chanting your name from the rooftops. The name…ummmm…<rifles through paperwork>…..Astavo.” Kid - “Estavao?” Chelsea - “whatever, do you and your dad/agent want the ****ing cash or not?”
Yeah, but Chelsea do it to every young player. Somehow hoover them all up. Build up their dreams - and then just discard the majority.
Everyone has a hard on for Chelsea finding ways to defeat PSR rules, but at the very same time they seem to not like PSR rules. I don't care what Chelsea do personally.
I'm not on about PSR I'm on about how they treat young lads. Steal all the talent by selling them a dream they will be a star, farm them out, discard the ones who don't make the cut. Many could have made it if they had continued to develop at their existing clubs rather than being plucked out and sent off to wherever Chelsea determine. Yes, I know all clubs do somerhing similar, to an extent. But the scale at which Chelsea do it is unreal, yet each of these lads are made to think they are 'the one'.
They’re not actually alone, they’re just far louder than most at selling this dream. City have been scooping up talent for years. To be fair I think it’s something we’ve recognised. We got that Slovenian kid, we’ve got that Spanish lad, we nicked Shahar from Wolves, so we’re wising up. I actually don’t believe what these clubs do in hoovering up and playing a numbers game is either right, ethical, or even works. You’re not nurturing, you’re playing with people’s lives and I think karma eventually comes back to ****ing eat you.
This! Think we are going along quietly behind the scenes getting young talent in from around Europe atm. got the young Serbian Pivas, young Turkish Yildaz, the aforementioned Shahar, Salia from Georgia, Cordero out of Spain etc. so we are getting in there and getting some "potential" players in early from around the continent. Minteh was probably first of the bunch and probably, when you think about it, was one of the most important signings we've made so far since the Saudis have come in - to turn a £20-25m profit on him in a year to save us from PSR at a vital time without playing a game for us was great business and fair play to the lad - he's doing well at Brighton so could have been a good buy for us and would have solved out RW problem this year.
We won a trophy without any signings, so the fan obsession with RW wasn't as urgent as they thought. It's all about getting the right ones or nothing at all.
