Good Morning. It's Friday 25th April, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

Lowy and Marathe get behind Farke amidst sacking rumour

Recent rumblings in the media have cast a shadow over Daniel Farke's future at Leeds Utd, with reports suggesting that 49ers Enterprises are considering a change at the helm. However, a new report from 'The Athletic' provides an inside perspective, as Beren Cross talks anonymously to Elland Road insiders to find out how true the sacking rumours are!

Despite obvious flaws, Farke has brought a sense of stability to Leeds, a quality appreciated by both players and ownership. His level-headed approach and unwavering adherence to his principles, even in the face of criticism, have resonated positively within the club. Sources speaking to The Athletic suggest that the current trajectory points towards Farke remaining in charge next season.

Crucially, board member Peter Lowy has emerged as a strong advocate for Farke. Chairman Paraag Marathe has also expressed his admiration for Farke's handling of the initial challenges of his tenure, particularly the complexities surrounding loan clauses. He was particularly impressed that Farke did not buckle under the pressure, unlike other potential candidates. Marathe also values his relationship with Farke, respecting the manager's judgment on squad decisions and acknowledging the positive results he has achieved.

Importantly, Farke's previous struggles in the Premier League with Norwich are not being held against him. The ownership recognizes that he faced significant challenges at Carrow Road and believes he is now better equipped to navigate the top flight.

The structure of Farke's role is also significant. Unlike a traditional "head coach," he was appointed as the club's "manager," granting him greater control over footballing decisions, including final say on all transfers.

While his position isn't guaranteed, the prevailing sentiment at Elland Road suggests that Farke is more likely to stay than go. The upcoming summer transfer window, which is expected to be a busy one, will be crucial in determining his long-term success. Marathe, chief strategy officer Robbie Evans, and head of football operations Adam Underwood will play vital roles in recruitment, guided by the data-driven approach favoured by 49ers Enterprises.

Meanwhile, Gretar Steinsson, who transitioned from technical director at Leeds to a similar role within 49ers Enterprises, has been linked to conversations with other managerial candidates. However, these discussions are reportedly related to Rangers, in whom 49ers Enterprises are aiming to purchase a stake.

Ultimately, the decision on Farke's future rests with the trio of Marathe, Evans, and Underwood, who will assess his ability to translate his Championship success to the Premier League. While uncertainties remain, the prevailing sentiment suggests that Daniel Farke is poised to continue his work at Elland Road, aiming to guide Leeds back to the top flight and establish a lasting period of success.

Bogle has even more potential to unlock

Leeds United captain Ethan Ampadu has lauded the performances of teammate Jayden Bogle, backing the right-back to continue his upward trajectory at Elland Road. Bogle's contributions have been crucial to Daniel Farke's attacking system, exemplified by his assist for Junior Firpo in the dominant 6-0 victory over Stoke on Monday.

Ampadu, who previously played alongside Bogle at Sheffield United, expressed his delight at having him in the team again. "Jayden's fantastic, I knew of his ability before [Leeds signed him last year]. I played with him at Sheffield United. I’m happy for him and hopefully he can keep going.”

Bogle's standout performances have not gone unnoticed, with a 'wonderful' assist setting up Manor Solomon's winning goal against Oxford. With two matches remaining, the dynamic right-back has already reached double figures for goals and assists, highlighting his significant impact in the final third.

Farke too has highlighted Bogle as a key performer for Leeds this season, particularly around the Christmas period. Since then, the former Derby County player has elevated his game to new heights, becoming a symbol of the fluidity and effectiveness.

Amps believes that Bogle, 24, has even more potential to unlock. "He’s got a lot more potential but he’s also doing very well at the minute. He was an outstanding signing for us with his consistency of performances."

"He has a strength going forward, creating chances and scoring goals. To have these numbers as a full-back is outstanding but I think it was also important for him to develop his game in terms of more defensive steel."

Solomon Move to Leeds Just Makes Sense

Tottenham owner Daniel Levy has a reputation as a shrewd operator, and his handling of Manor Solomon is proving no different. Spurs initially acquired Solomon on a free transfer following a successful loan spell at Fulham, capitalizing on his situation with Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk.

Now, just two seasons later, Levy is looking to cash in on Solomon, reportedly demanding between £15m and £20m from Leeds United for a permanent transfer. This is a fee that Leeds should be able to manage, especially considering they can also comfortably afford his £54,000-a-week wages. There's even speculation of a potential swap deal, with Pascal Struijk heading to North London in exchange, a move valued around £25m.

For Leeds, securing Solomon should be a top priority. His impressive form in the second half of the season demonstrated his potential to be a key player. With Junior Firpo likely departing for Real Betis this summer, Leeds will have more than enough room in their wage budget to accommodate Solomon's salary.

Previously, the club's highest earners in the Premier League, including Firpo, Patrick Bamford, and Rodrigo, were each taking home £90,000 per week. Of those three, only Bamford remains, and his contract has just 12 months left, making a summer exit unlikely.

Considering the club's past wage structure and the potential impact Solomon could have on the team, acquiring him for £54,000 per week seems like a significant bargain. The move makes financial sense for Leeds, and Solomon's talent and potential make him a worthwhile investment. Securing his signature would be a statement of intent from the club and a boost to their chances of a swift return to the top flight.

It's going to be blissful watching the next set of games without heart palpitations or chewed fingernails. Still can't believe we've done it. <cheers>
It'll be even better watching the playoffs as a neutral. <laugh>

PS yes, let's keep Solomon. If we lose Struijk, we need a new header of the ball for corners. Even though Willy got one v Stoke he's the shortest guy on the pitch!

Just my interpretation and I may be totally wrong, but...

Following Promotion, Daniel Farke has been gaining support from within the club.

Daily Mail (the unofficial mouth piece for 49ers Enterprises) are leaked a story by the owners to quell the momentum so when Farke is sacked, it comes as no surprise.

I've been told (have no idea how true this is) that fans, and more importantly sponsors rip into Marathe over both the decision to let Farke go and the timing.

Those supporting Farke from 49ers Enterprises go through Beren Cross at The New York Times/Athletic to dispel the rumours that Farke is leaving, insinuating he'll be at Elland Road next season.

I have a similar stat table from the 2019/20 season as my PC screensaver. Except we're first in everything.

Good afternoon from a beautiful and sunny Spain. Looking forward to the last two games now knowing that the job is done. Would still like to get to the 100 points and win the league. As I said before the (outfield) players deserve it.
